commission through local stores and restaurants...offer personal signing 'nigh outs' and let the shop owners receive a commission....another great way is if schools are opening wither technical or trade schools...they love local art....and be sure the frames you choose really set off your art (or not if you go that way...but use clever hanging techniques)
Finally - know anyone offering 'in-home' parties for their wares where you can tag along...sometimes pampered chef is a great way....and get your art onto some napkins for the party!!!
in other words - let people know YOU....there is such an appeal for artist who are personal professional and willing to connect in ways OTHER THAN just their art....it makes your pieces so much more appealing!!!!
Finally - keep a current - artsy website....easy for anyone to do and so appealing to give out with your artsy business cards!
Good luck - I LOVE artists and the allure of the talented and gifted artist is truly irresistible....it you are personable and approachable!

Are there any galleries in your area featuring new (I'm guessing this is the stage you're at) artists? How about studio showings? Open studios? Art displays in local coffee houses or restaurants? Have someone cover your work for a local newspaper? Contests?
Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

Start off with local art shows, festivals, or contest. Ask hotels, galleries and resturants to let you hang your work for free. If someone inquires about buying your painting you can give the store owner a percent of the sale. Anywhere would be better than in your closet. Schools, churches, court house, anywhere.

most cities have art shows and sales; this would be one place. Also, you can ask to display your art in shopping malls, hospitals, offices, etc. Also, you could sell on e-bay or start your own web-site! Dona G.
