When I was 5 y/o I was tired of the beatings from my Mother. I packed a small suitcase and walked across the street, through my cousins yard and sat in the alley behind her garage. I spent most of the afternoon there and couldn't come up with a better plan so went back home.
The abuse continued another 10 years until she picked a husband for me, planned a wedding and made me get married. I always questioned myself on why I never ran away again. (Of course, she said she would find me no matter where I went...guess that had alot to do with it.)

I got to the end of the driveway and hid behind the hedge for about 10 minutes.

About 5 miles away from my home. I walked to a friends house in the middle of the night and was "found out" the next morning. Not the brightest plan was it? LOL. Ah well, I was only about 11 years old. That was the last time. I got into so much trouble for that stunt.

Im not sure If I ever "ran away". I know when I got angry or frustrated or sad even, I'd go for a walk somewhere or bike around. At my old house I had this place in the woods I'd go to. It was sorta like my camp. I was about 8 then.

When I was 5 I walked three miles to the neighbouring property in the belief that I was on some sort of spiritual quest or pilgrimage - at least, I remember doing a lot of praying along the way. My parents nearly had a conniption.

We lived in St. Helens OR. I ran as far as Longview WA. It's across the Columbia river and about 10 miles away. I was 11.

When I was 4 years old, I hid in the backseat on the floor of my grandparents car, not because of bad home, but I didn't get to see my grandparents enough.......they drove about 30 minutes before discovering me, and having to drive me all the way back home! (they lived in next state)..........at 17, I didn't so much run away, as just didn't go home for long spells..........freedom can suck when you're broke........

When I was 7 I ran down the road to my dad's house (I lived with my mom). When I was 14 I hitchhiked 900 kms and back.

I went several miles. But came back home by dinner. So my parents would not know I ran away.
Not because of love. But rather, if I did not come home, they would lock me out of the house. My mother was the holder of the keys.
