Emotions are nothing more than chemicals in your head, the same as chemicals in food, or you buy off the streets.

At times (usually as a child) you will discover that there is a certain chemical that you like and you may become addicted to it.

Take for example people that are happy ad laughing all the time. Their body likes the chemical released from the laughing and will do it over and over again.

Unfortunately the same is true for the chemical that makes you sad. The same way that a person gets addicted to downers (pills) he may also become addicted to the natural chemicals released in the brain when you think depressing thoughts or feel sad. This can cause depression. And while it is not possible to overdose on the chemicals of the mind, you may still get into a situation where life is no longer worth living due to the mind state that you are in. Understanding this is the first step to overcoming it.
By realizing when you are thinking these thoughts, and why; You have the choice to simply stop thinking them, and therefore resist the urge to indulge in what is essentially chemical addiction.

Some people find that it is easier on them to put themselves down first before anyone else has the chance to do it. I myself do this quite frequently it is a coping mechanism that some people have developed over time. I learned it when I was quite young. It is also a survival skill as well.

Good luck to you and I hope I was some what helpful.

It's because people feel they've done something stupid and they regret doing it and they feel because they keep doing it they need to change their personality. As a result they attempt to train themselves the same way one would treat a dog by associating bad behavior with a bad consequence in this case feeling crappy about themselves brought on by the put downs they give themselves.

It's an inner voice that repeats what a person has heard said to him/her at some point in their life. At one poinit, that person was told that he/she couldnt' do something, or was called stupid or fat, or ugly (you get the picture). That stuck. And it became a mantra in that person's head.

Is it Human Nature? I don't think so. I think it's low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. Both can be worked on. Whenever that voice comes up, simply tell it to Shut Up.
