Though there is much we cannot comprehend in our mortal state, our soul or "spirit" comes from God. Paul said that we are the offspring of God. The question naturally leads to what were we before that. Joseph Smith taught that in the beginning we were all intelligences. God found a way to organize those intelligences into spirit bodies that resemble our mortal bodies. We lived with God for many years and acknowledged him as the literal father of our spirits. No doubt we developed certain dispositions - for music, for art, for science in our premortal state which came with us to this mortal sphere. Here God provided a way for our spirits to be organized into mortal bodies. Ultimately we will progress to immortal bodies. Lesser intelligences were organized as animals or plants. All living things have intelligence and spirits. Genesis teaches us that all things were created spiritually before they were created physically, hence two creations are spoken of in Genesis. Bottom line is that we have always existed - first as intelligences, then as spirits, then with mortal bodies, eventually with immortal bodies.

If God is in control of your soul before it was put into your body then I would compare it to a Potter molding a pot. What ever he puts into the shape or color or design of the pot is what would go into it. The body needs the soul to hold the bones up. So God put the life of the soul into the body to support the body to be able to live and survive.

There is no soul, you die, thats it, so get busy!
(BTW, when a Christian tells you that the soul is created by god, ask them why all men are sinful. You would think that god, being all powerful, would be able to get SOME people right. Christians believe that the sin of Adam (eating that darn fruit) is somehow passed on to all souls, making them incapable of leading sinless lives, and dooming them to eternal toasting if they dont accept jesus. Ask them how that is supposed to work.

Can it "come from" any place or thing? A soul would have to be created from the will of God "ex niliho", or out of nothing.

Everything is comprised of matter. The soul is matter that is most pure. There is a soul that is the most pure. Souls were formed from pure matter by Intelligences that we call Gods, or God.

Do you mean the fish? Cause if you do, it's "sole". If you mean the music, I don't listen to soul.

Your belly, that's where it chills out until you die. Then it breaks free of it's mortal constraints and flows into the next life.
