A friend of mine got suspended from work until further notice, as told to him by superiors. Does this mean he should plan on getting booted?

He was written up for 'losing' close to a thousand dollars, collectively, over a period of two weeks. And suspended without pay. It's a cashier job.

Well, he didn't steal the money, he wouldn't do that. He's had the job for almost 17 years, and just recently money came up short. It could be carelessness, who knows.

Most likely he is terminated. They may be hiding behind that phrase "until further notice" just in case they get really desparate really soon. But that's not likely. And if they did, why would he wish to do them any favors.
Tell him to move on and find a new job.

It depends on if he is a member of a union and what he did to get suspended. It is not a good thing in any event. If he is a union member he might have a chance. If he is not a union member, I suggest that he file for unemployment ASAP.

Usually, but not always.

At my work, sometimes we run out of projects to have people work on, so we let them go until we have something for them to do.

Usually yes. They are investigating the situation and do not have enough proof yet.

Your friend is done for, you don't "misplace" $1000 and think no one will notice. He/she better hope that's all he/she gets
