No, it doesn't. The idea is to take away the 'emotional' pain and replace it with physical pain or something like that, yes? Well the emotional problems will still be there when the cut is feeling better, but a scar will be left and potential problems around the corner. Such as people being concerned for you, you hurting yourself more than intended, etc. It's not a good way to go.

No, cutting yourself hurts you in the short term and the long term. It physically hurts and if you continue doing it, you will get used to engaging in self-destructive behavior. There are other ways of making the pain go away that actually help you, such as watching a movie or show, especially a comedy. Laughter is healing.

My answer for your freind is when you cut yourself YOU bleed and YOU hurt and why should you hurt when it is the world whom has hurt you.You are in alot of emotional pain but to afraid to lash out but that is your salvation let out your anger out. Bottling it further hurts you.Wouldnt you feel better if it was someone else whom was doing the bleeding. You need a release
wouldnt you feel alot better if you knew some totally awfull person got what he/she deserved?Take my advice and you will have your comfort the "pain" will go away

How does cutting yourself helps pain go away? You should ask her if she cuts her self would she bleed. Maybe you should try and get her some help.

cutting or any self harm just compounds pain and issues.

There needs to be healthy outlets.....Like running. Swimming. Art, photography volenteering to help those less fortunate.

Your friend needs to get some counseling concenring the pain she is feeling. Life is too short to deal with so much.

i have cut for two years and i believe unless you've self harmed u cant say **** about it because you have no idea and even if you have self harmed u don't know whats made this person self harm or how it makes them feel. i 100% believe it takes my pain away and i like the way the cut looks on my skin i love them and when they start to fade i miss them. so all you haters **** off

No. and im saying this comming from some religious view, but i have done it a few times. i think its a cry for help and for attention. in thoes moments your so upset cutting urself seems like it would relieve the pain, like transfering it to physical pain. cause that would heal alot faster then mental pain. so for a few seconds it does help. but over all, your just hurting urself more.

No, I don't think that it does.
I know a girl that did this and
it only caused more problems.

Talking about pain and how you are
feeling is a good start. I keep a journal that
also helps me.I try to find a way to vent what I
am feeling, not to hurt me in another way but to be
able to look back and learn from.

It helps temporarily. Eventually youll have to cut more and more for it to feel good, and it might become an addiction. I had a friend that stopped cutting for 5 years, but the minute his friend (who had talked him out of it) left, he started again, for no real reason, he just "had a compulsion."

The best way to deal with any pain is to deal with it and find a solution for getting rid of it, not covering it up for the moment.

Also, scars suck. You (or your friend) might think theyre ok now, or that theyre even cool, but how cool would is it going to be to explain them to your kids when they ask? They might believe that you "ran into a pitchfork" when theyre young, but they wont forever.

So no, it is not an effective way of dealing with pain, and does much much more damage (mentally and physically) than good.

If this were a solution many people would have resolved many of life's issues this way, however the problem is generally deeper than the skin, even deeper than the bone. It is in your heart and soul and only someone who knows you better than yourself can help put things into perspective. Want to meet this person?
