No they are not. If you believe that the Bible is God's word then you should read the following scriptures for youself and see the answer to you question. You first have to understand death. If you have ever had surgery you know that you are put into a deep sleep. During that time you see nothing, feel nothing, know nothing. Death is like that. It is a deep sleep.

The dead are shown to be “conscious of nothing at all” and the death state to be one of complete inactivity. (Ec 9:5, 10; Ps 146:4) Those dying are described as going into “the dust of death” (Ps 22:15), becoming “impotent in death.” (Pr 2:18; Isa 26:14) In death there is no mention of God or any praising of him. (Ps 6:5; Isa 38:18, 19) In both the Hebrew and the Greek Scriptures, death is likened to sleep, a fitting comparison not only because of the unconscious condition of the dead but also because of the hope of an awakening through the resurrection. (Ps 13:3; Joh 11:11-14) The resurrected Jesus is spoken of as “the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep in death.”—1Co 15:20, 21

For instance the Lazarus account.
IT HAPPENED in the year 32 C.E. at Bethany, where Lazarus lived with his two sisters, Martha and Mary. The sisters had sent a message to Jesus that Lazarus was sick. Jesus loved Lazarus and his sisters, so He set out for Bethany. On the road, Jesus informed his disciples: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.” The disciples thought that Jesus meant literal sleep. So Jesus stated plainly: “Lazarus has died.”—John 11:1-15.
Notice how Jesus first said that Lazarus was sleep. Therefore when someone dies they are not watching over the living.

There is no fixed answer to this question, because the people who pass away obviously have souls, and their own individual journeys to charter, for realizing their own selves. Thus to think that the souls of our near and dear ones are left with the soul purpose of watching over those who are still living, is a presumptious one. They have their own paths to move ahead on. Although it may so happen that the next step for a particular soul is to act guardian angel for a living counterpart, and in that case, yes, they do look over their close ones.

I think "watching" is not the correct term. I believe that souls both physical and non physical share the same spaces, but are separated by death. I believe love holds us all closely together but also spares us the angst of "watching" one another. If a good memory or sense of being loved by someone who has entered into death strengthens the living, it is the undying love that sustains, supports and permits continuation of life. Love is the strongest of all God's gifts to man. Love is the essence of ones "soul".

I would like to think so. My father has helped me a lot since he passed away. If he isn't watching over me then my memories of him are and that is just as good.

Again, I speak only for myself. My husband passed away 25 years ago. We were married 33 years and I will say that his death was not a surprise (cancer) it is still a shock when it occurs. For 10 years, I could hear his voice directing me when I needed it. Then it stopped. I know that he knew I could make it on my own without his help and he left me to God. There comes a time, when everyone that lives has got to stop worrying about
what is and turn to God and let Him guide you.

Sometimes I hope not and the remainder of the time - I wish they would find a way to communicate with us better.

No I do not believe any of those quacks that claim they can communicate with the dead. So far - none have contacted me.

But I wish someone could explain de je veux especially when I dream things that come to reality and creep me out.

Although it's a very comforting thought to some people, I don't beleive so. When you die, you are asleep and or unknowning to the rest of the world untill you're revived at the second coming. ^_^

Actually, it doesn't seem that comforting to me anyway. It used to. But, I've realized that itcould be awful for them to see how you're doing. Imagine seeing problems they never knew before..and not being able to help anymore? Or seeing that you've lied to them or something..

In the course of the past five years I have lost no less than 18 friends and relatives. The hardest one to cope with was that of my older cousin. We barely knew eachother other than at family reunions and other such meetings. About two years she came to the Mission that I was working in she helped me serve meals to the poor. Her daughters also came. Not more than a year of me getting to know her better she contracted cancer and died. Shortly after that her daughter came to visit me to see if all was going well. During that conversation she asked me the same question. I told her that I believed completely in the communion of saints, which means that the souls in heaven are always with us. As she left, it was confirmed. My cousin and I always had one thing in common. We loved to listen to Elvis. As her daughter drove away, Someone drove up and was playing our favorite song "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You." I Believe that this was my cousin talking to me from heaven and I thank God for that.

No. The Bible gives us the condition of the dead. At Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 "The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they any more have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She'ol, [mankind's common grave] the place to which you are going."

Of course. If they watched over you in life, why would they not want to continue to do so after they cross over? Just because we "think" we can't sense or "see" them, doesn't mean they are not here. Learn to sense them, see them, hear them and they might just apreciate YOU more. I'm sure they miss you as much as you miss them. I saw that the "veil" between the living and the dead is virtually gone, meaning, our 6th chakra is widening and clearing more and more.
