You've got the best motivation in the world. How about some of these things:
stop and never drink
stop and never use drugs
begin now to save for college
try to be non-judgmental to those not hurting you or your family
learn to be calm and think before speaking
Enjoy your life and teach him to enjoy his.
The list could be endless.

sir. this is what you do.
Let's get down to business - to defeat the Huns
Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?
You're the saddest bunch I've ever met
But you can bet before we're through
Mister, I'll make a man out of you
Tranquil as a forest
But a fire within
Once you find your center
You are sure to win
You're a spineless, pale pathetic lot
And you haven't got a clue
Somehow I'll make a man out of you
I'm never gonna catch my breath
Say goodbye to those who knew me
Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym
This guy's got 'em scared to death
Hope he doesn't see right through me
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim
(Chorus:)
Be a man
We must be swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon
Time is racing toward us till the Huns arrive
Heed my every order and you might survive
You're not suited for the rage of war
So pack up, go home you're through
How could I make a man out of you?
(repeat chorus)
(repeat chorus)
^_^ Be A Man! Do The Right Thing!

By asking the question it has already been answered.
I think the most important thing in early parenting is providing the child with a diverse array of cross-modal stimulation--tactile, visual, auditory stimulation.
Stress is obviously something one should eliminate at all costs from a developing child's environment, but I should not have to say that.
Basically, just dont beat your kid and it will be fine.

If you remove all those stresses your gonna be broke homeless and friendless, no way to raise a kid.
Learn from a great father, and do the opposite of any bad fathers you know. Read a biography of someone you admire and respect.
Nurture the kid, let it grow itself, we already have 1 of you, why make it 2.

Teach by example. Everything you do and everything you don't do should be used as an example to teach your child what a real man can and should be. And, let me throw this in...
if your child is a boy, allow him to feel ALL of his emotions without shame or guilt. Let him cry and hug and hurt and disagree (respectfully, of course) and love openly.

Understand that you will effect this precious little person more than anyone on earth (except, of course his mother), and as such, your love, your discipline, your conduct in life will influence how this child looks at the world and how he/she turns out. Keep that in mind at all times. Mostly, tell your child how much you love him/her and are glad they were born.

Because you asked this question I know you will be a great father!
Give two things to your children:
Your time and your love. Everything else will fall into place.

Good luck with that, but I am sure if you had posted your question in Families, and not Royalty, you would have got far more responses, and very useful ones.

Spend a lot of time with the child as they will thank you for it when they grow up... and be there for them if they need it
