Guns are a form of weapon, originally invisioned for hunting, not war. Weapons come in all shapes and sizes. From the first time primitive man picked up a bone or a large stick and used it as a club, man has been inventing new, more sophisticated weaponry. It is in our nature to kill things to protect ourselves. It probably always will be.

Guns exist because 1 person wanted an eaiser way to kill his enemies. Knives worked fine, but took to long to do the job. With a gun, and the gun was shot properly, you really didn't get your hands dirty.

There you go, and thank you for the two points.

How about several!
1) As a deterrent to dictatorship
2) To protect homes from burglars
3) To protect citizens (who may or may not have a right to carry permit---I'd rather break a law than be dead!!!)
4) To hunt
5) To target practice
6) To collect
7) So peace officers will be able to do what they are paid to do (keep the peace!)

Around here they're needed for protection from bears. There are far more bears shot here than humans. Of course the bear population is far greater to begin with.

Oh wait, you mean in America?
That's easy. To shoot things. Because people find destroying fun.
And most of all, to protect against the unknown.

Hunting, and protection. Even if guns didn't exist, people could still use knives or other things to kill people with, all this talk about how guns cause violence is a bunch of crap in my opinion.

If anything should be banned, it's religion. Religion causes massive violence all over the world.

Because they do!
As long as anger is there, guns or no guns won't make a difference.
We used stones and arrows in the past.

Protection against wild animals when a human is in an area where they might be attacked. That is the only good reason.
