Martha Stewart has really cute ideas, food and decorations. I like the pumpkins you make little holes in, looks like illuminated lace with the candle inside. There are foods that look like body parts, too.
Gotta have popcorn balls, and mellowcreme candies. And a cake or cookies or cupcakes decorated in halloween themes. You could play Halloween trivia, and there is always the bowls filled with eyeballs and worms {spagetti and grapes] to blind fold the kids and make them put their hands in.
Grab bags are always cool, find the little paper trick or treat bags at the dollar stores, or Walmart has them, and fill with candy and favors from the party store. Ours has bins and bins of cute little stuff for less than a buck, like spiders, and little articulated skeletons.

Pick a theme and let your guests know before they come so they can dress up too. Decorate to your theme, and remember the music!
