I saw Laura on a Saturday children's show within the first year of her husband' presidency. She has always had this perpetual smile on her face, Well she was doing all right with the interview until the hostess asked her to recommend some childrens' book titles.
Laura smiled, and without mssiing a beat, she threw up her hands and said: "Oh, just any of them".

But she's librarian.
hummm
not a smart answer.

Laura has a Bachelor of Science in Education, and a Master of Science in Library Science,..hardly "heavy" -- in fact quite easy. I'm not impressed that you "met" her.and "spoke" to her --name droppers don't impress me silly. They just underscore your lack of confidence in yourself.
And if she was that smart since you spoke "extensively about literature and some schools banning certain books"and since she "was put on the spot" regarding an answer on a silly childrens show, and since she has a Bachelors and a Masters, SURELY she could remember the name of at least ONE book for children.
She wasn't put on the spot. She was quite relaxed. She was asked a question. She was a librarian. She saw childrens books everyday. "The Cat and the Hat "would have been a good start.
ANYTHING would have been a good start.

and as for your sarcastic "(unlike this question)"
Well silly, if the question was not to your liking, why bother to answer it.

Smart? Well. . . she married George so . . . .

But I had no idea she was as dense as he when it comes to recommending books.
But Shrub himself couldn't answer the question of what his favorite children's book growing up was during an interview, in fact the answer he gave was supposedly a book that wasn't published until he was well into his late teens!

I don't know. But I will say that if she is smart, she has made quite an enormous effort to hide it...Which is unfortunate as most women would identify and connect with a smart first lady. We've had many smart first ladies before.

I will say though -- I agree with pancakes on the book choice thing. Mrs. Bush did show savvy in not naming a specific book. I've worked in press for many years and you do have to watch what you say and choose in such situations, as it could get twisted.

But this does not show smarts. Only that she was well-advised by her image handlers in that case.

When you get as much education as she has, then you can ask that question. I have met the lady and spoke with her extensively about literature and some schools banning certain books. She is extremely intelligent (unlike this question), regardless of what she said when she was put on the spot.

Have you ever been put on the spot to answer a question? We all have, and it isn't easy to come up with a quick answer.

NOTE: It's pretty sad that this guy thinks I'm name dropping. Did you ever stop to think that she didn't want to offend any living authors? If you don't want all opinions and views on something, don't ask the question. Mine is just another view.

From what I've heard, Laura is probably significantly smarter than her husband. She actually sounds like she has a pretty decent brain.

(Then again, a tree stump is probably significantly smarter than her husband, so my comparison fails to a degree.)

She's smart enough to know not to name any particular children's book so a liberal media can't pin any label on her. (for example, if it was a book with a married father and mother in it, she would be called a homophobe) She obviously has political savvy.

Is she smart? Isn't that a rhetorical question? Look at who she married!!! If she was smart, would she have married the moron she married.
