I have a vegetarian friend, well he says he is a vegetarian because he doesn’t eat anything with a soul. To my friend that means no mammals, mammals have souls but chicken is okay to eat because birds don’t have souls, they aren’t mammals. So what is it, you have to be a mammal to have a soul, you have to have cognitive thought, you have to be self aware, have emotion??? So does your dog/soul have a soul? How about a snake, a rat, a cockroach, an ant, a tree? What has a soul?

I think a soul is given to any functioning creature that understands that it exists and is going to die sometime in the future. I also believe that this is the major difference between humans and other species. I also believe in a Higher Power that has given people the in site into their existence and the free will to either improve or destroy their destiny. I think that the soul does continue to exist after we die and moves on to a different level. The last theory has no proof but relies on faith.

I believe all mammalian species have souls.

I have no remorse about killing vegetables, bugs, or fish. (whales, dolphins, etc. are mammals)

I am, however, a hypocrite. I eat meat, and fowl. I trick myself into believing that meat/fowl come from the grocery store wrapped in plastic. I'm happy with that. If I had to kill in order to eat, I would be a vegetarian...I couldn't do it.

In the hebrew the word soul is synomonous with the word breath.

And Lord god formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and MAN became a living SOUL.

Everything else he just spoke the word and it became what it was, according the the bible.

Man has soul, animals not so much.

God says in Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." HUMANS are the only creatures he gave a soul to. This 'living soul' statement is only made about man....
