Different cultures have different gestures and visual signs - for example, a Hmong tribesman will nod to say "no", and shake his head to say "yes".
In a melting pot, you cannot assume that everyone shares common gestures. That is why a common language is encouraged, to enable better communication and social mobility.

That's not a matter of lacking common sense (i.e, thinking it's okay to leave the stove on when you go on a 20 minute shopping trip) - you are stating problems with language interpretation, which I hope you know (since you are obviously full of common sense), are different. The simplest gestures mean completely different things in different cultures. Example: In America, finishing a drink in a pub and putting the glass upside down generally signifies that you are finished - do that in some Australian pubs, and you'll get your *** kicked because that specific gesture means you think you can win a fight with anybody in that bar. So I think it's actually quite "common sensible" for these foreigners to investigate the meanings of things in America before they go utilizing the gestures.

May I prove l you thee so called English speakers Non senses. Of course I am not from the "So called English Circle". The measurement of your thinking about "Zero Common Sense" differs from culture and social behaviour of a particular region. Never think that only English Speaking people are highly elevated souls of this universe. I disagree with you.
To fill up my stomach and to take care of my family , I am forced to learn English. I never like culture of English Speakers because the purpose of the 6th Common sense imposed on Human by Almighty has wrong impact and the manners which mean to or gentle behaviour in your language can not fuel a person to lead a spiritual and peaceful life which suppose to be the ultimate goal of a valid human birth.

It is culture differences too.
There are some cultures who think that looking someone in the eye is a sign of disrespect instead of a sign of respect or self esteem like it is here. There are some cultures where it is terrible to stand too close or too far. We don't know what all other cultures consider to be different things than we do, so you can't expect them to know hand jestures or looks on the face because it can mean a totally different thing to them.

You are judging these people from your standpoint from your own experiences. Perhaps the gestures that you use with them are not ones that they use in their culture, and in fact you may be saying something very offensive to them. I have met many people who are supposedly citizens of this country who have very little or no sense and they also speak the language albeit in a rather strange vernacular.

While I've noticed too that many people lack 'common sense' , I do not believe it has anything whatsoever to do with an individuals' language.I believe it has to do with television as a nuturing force in todays' society.Itseems to teach a very distorted sense of reality to our youth.

Because common sense really isn't so common. don't let the term fool you. Cultures are very different, yet somewhat the same. the crossover can either be confusing or complimentary. Strange isn't it? Have a good one.

All gestures are not universal. If I gave the "OK" sign to someone from another country, he might just look at me feeling confused and wondering why I want to lick his butthole or something.
