Well, I had a regular cold that lasted four days and I didn't get too sick. Just sneezing, some coughing, and a little congested with sinus pressure. Yesterday she coughed off and on but nothing serious, no fevers. I did give her a couple doses of Tylenol cough & cold for infants as the doctor instructed me to do should she get another cold. She seemed to feel better. Today she had a runny nose off and on and wasn't coughing much. I only gave her one dose of medicine in the morning when she was coughing. I used saline nose drops tonight to try and help with her nose so she could sleep better. I have the humidifier running in her room and she hasn't coughed in her sleep yet so far (it's 10:45 here, she went to bed @ 7:30). Do you think she will get any worse since my cold was not bad at all? And since she has not gotten any worse in two days? Do you have any similar experience with your children that you could share? So maybe I can worry just a little less? Thanks! :)

She might be cutting some teeth too. That will cause a runny nose and slight fever. I think your doing great. My kids have both had colds, and it just takes a few days to get through. Dont worry momma.

My 11 month old daughter and I shared a cold about two weeks ago that lasted for about two weeks -- it was awful. It began as a sore throat, some sneezing and sniffles, then we got the full swing. If she has a cold, it has most likely already infected her system so no matter how much tylenol you give her it will only temporarily relieve her symptoms. I opted to use a product called Little Noses (an alcohol-free cold reliever) for her symptoms and kept myself dosed up with a daily intake of a product called Emergen-C (immune booster). I hated seeing her sick -- I think the less products the better, though. I know that this is the season!

if you have the symptoms but no fever then chances are you are having an allergic reaction. sounds the same for the baby. 99% of the world population is allergic to the fecal pellets of the dust mite. the pellet is a protein that causes the sinus membrane to swell and release histamines. thus the runny nose. sometimes the eyes become itchy and watery also. dust mites live and breed in the sheets and pillows on your bed. the ingest dead skin cells. the average person sheds 1 pt of skin cells per year. you need to get a Rainbow vacuum. they give free demonstrations. when they came to my house they vacuumed the mattres on my bed. the crud (dead skin) floating on top of the water was sickening. the sales rep also show us how the vacuum could be used as a cool air vaporizer. he showed us an article by a doctor that said regular vaporizers and humidifiers put out too much water and have in some cases caused pneumonia. the article said that the water allow harmful molds to grow and then disburses it into the air for us to breath. he set it up so that it just filtered the air. it cleans 99% of particles larger than 1 micron from the air in just minutes. it is much, much more than just a vacuum. doctors and allergist want to treat the symptoms over and over. we got the vacuum because it gets rid of cause of the symptoms, indoor air pollution.
hope the baby feels better soon,

Welcome to motherhood :) Those things are going to happen all the time, doesnt matter how much you "disenfect" things, shes going to get sick. We have four boys, and actually its healthy for kids to have colds once in awhile. Its makes their immune systems stronger. First off, Shes probably not as uncomfortable as you think she is :) shes been sleeping sound since 7:30 thats excellent. She will be just fine. Keep giving her the medicine as needed. Make sure shes drinking plenty. Try vapor cream for babies. That stuff really does work. Its better then saline drops. As far as ive experienced. Give her a warm bath before bed, get her nice and relaxed. Get her in something thats comfortable to sleep in. If she gets too hot she will be coughing much more. So try and keep her a little on the cool side, but not cold by any means. She will be fine :) I promise :P GOODLUCK!!!

Don't worry about it. It sounds like you are doing all the right things to help her get through it. It just has to run its course. There's no telling how an infant will respond to a cold--their little bodies are very different from ours. Just look out for thick yellow or green mucous, keep her well hydrated and watch for fever. If you see the mucous or she gets a fever take her back to the doctor.

She probably won't get worse, but with children you never know. Keep using the humidifier and check her temp. You can tell if she starts to feel worse again. In the meantime I think you are doing the right thing. Give her the recommended dosage of cough syrup and tylenol to keep her comfortable and encourage clear fluids. Lots of rest and TLC. She'll be fine. (It's harder on us than it is them when they are sick, you know) lol Good luck, and if she seems worse at all, call the doctor.

There is a small chance she could develop a secondary infection from nasal drip running down her throat, into her chest etc. You're doing everything right, just keep watching her over the next few days, if she starts coughing, or producing yellow or green mucous, I would take her in to the doctor.

Worrying is normal.

But your baby is at an age where she's a little bit mobile, comes in contact with more objects and people, and puts everything, especially in her hands, in her mouth. So she's going to get colds. They just do.

I think she's fine. I think you're handling it fine. And I think in a few years you'll look back and think it's hilarious that you could ever have worried so much over such a little thing!

I know that's how *I* feel, anyway.

She can easily develop an ear infection in this situation...even if its a mild cold. Just watch out for any ear tugging.

Sounds to me like you are doing everything just right. I did all these things for my daughters when they were small. Yours may or may not get any worse becasue it depends on too many variables to accurately estimate. Good luck.
