When people hear the word Jesus...and salvation in the same sentence you see some people begin to close you out.....why? Scared? Don't want to be seen with a christian? Embarressed? Ashamed? Unsure?

Good question. I think they're either afraid to admit that living selfishly is wrong, so they fear (needlessly) that if they give any consideration to Jesus' message they won't have any more fun, or else they refuse to believe that they are in need of salvation at all ("I'm not really THAT bad; I'm actually a nice person"). In either case they simply close their eyes and ears, their minds and their hearts. They cannot or will not see the plain truth--that salvation means ultimate liberation, not limitation.

As John 3:19 says, ". . .the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

I think alot of people ARE afraid, afraid of the unknown perhaps ? just don't want to be 'preached at' ? because they're too ignorant and/or was never brought up with any religious or spiritual influence. Alot of people just refuse to believe anything that they cannot see, and are too blind to see the proof of Jesus right in front of their eyes living within other people. It's just easier to rebuke God's presence and Jesus our Savior when Satan and evil spirits have such a stronghold on so many lives and souls. Some people just don't want to take the time to learn what a wonderful new life they could have if only they would come to know Jesus. I truly am a very blessed and fortunate person because I took the time to find an answer to a very troubling time in my life, I went on a Womens' Cursillo for 4 days and have had my own revelation, that was 14 years ago and never regretted it for one second. I LOVE JESUS, THERE PEOPLE !

Not everyone is pulled to the path of Christianity. If someone doesn't believe that Jesus is salvation, then they probably don't want to hear it for the millionth time. It's the norm to go about preaching christianity and jesus, but if people of other faiths try to put their 2 cents in, they are condemned to eternal damnation. I'd rather hang out with a more tolerant crowd.

there is no embarrassment, no bad feelings, no guilt, no one is scared, everyone that doesn't like talking about jesus just has an open mind. and when i say these people have an open mind you are probably thinking that they just have not found jesus and learned of his greatness, or they haven't found the way, or if they don't believe they will pay for their sins. but you have to realize that not everyone believes the same beliefs as you and you are only looking at life from one point of view. the thing that you or more likely everyone very passionate about their religion is that you all have not seriously contemplated that there is no real meaning to life and that there is no God. everyone should ask themselves "how would i feel if there was no higher power?" and then accept that it is a possibility. there are also many, many, reasons that negate jesus and the stories in the bible, like the fact that the bible says the earth is only like 2000 years old. so if this is true then a person who believes the bible cannot believe in things like dinosaurs, and cavemen, because fossils can scientifically dated back hundreds of thousands of years. also there are too many questions that can never be answered by christians, like if god sent jesus to spread the word, why would he only do it in one part of the world and to so few people at that, god is suppose to be all powerful why would he not want to make his presence felt through out the whole at the same time so everyone would know at the same time. what happened to asia, if god loves everyone the same why would he forget asia. there are over a billion people in china alone, and the people have their own religion and beliefs and they are able to trace their religion and stories back thousands of years older than christianity, so what are all these people wrong for their beliefs that are older and there are hundreds of thousands of people that all believe that same thing, that is nothing like christianity. so to believe that your faith is the one true correct one and everyone should hear about it, and that there is no possibility that you are wrong is very self centered. also if you believe so passionately why concern yourself with people who don't want to hear about it?

For me none of these are true. My fiancee is Catholic and I respect him and his religion. What I'm scared of when I hear about Jesus is that the person is going to spend hours trying to convert me and will tell me that I'm going to Hell if I don't accept Jesus (my grandma does this all the time which certainly contributes to my fear of religous people). I have no problem having a normal, civil conversation about religion, but I do resent it when someone tries to change me, just like I'm sure any Christian would be upset if I tried to convince them not to believe. I very much respect people and whatever they believe in, I just ask for the same in return.

Maybe the people who pressure these teachings are fed up. As a Native American, we face this everyday. Some people still think we're primtives lost in time and only Jesus can save us. I was a Catholic growing up. But, after learning of the forced assilmation by the "Church" , I lost my faith in the Church. I know there is God and I belive in him. But, why should we all believe in religion were the clegryman beat potential followers into believing there God. Knowledge often spoils devotion.

First, I think people are turned off by the American Christian because so many of us really aren't loving like Jesus commands. We preach a lot, but don't live out what we say we believe. I have met so many creepy, weird, mean-spirited, judgemental, so-called Christians, that I don't blame people for being turned off. I call this type of religious nonsense Churchianity. Do they know us by our fruits???

Second, perhaps people really do love the darkness rather than the light. It's scary to go into the unknown....

Every religion comes up with his own meaning and all says they are right. If I am not christian I got to hell. On the other hand, if I'm not muslim, I go to hell too. So, it is a dead end, well at least it is warm there, won't freeze.
The issue is not about being afraid, it is of this mentality of needing to "assimilate" people into one's own religion that is making people uncomfortable. More so when each religion is doing the same.

They do this because they have preconceived ideas of Christian's. I think is we as Christians begin walking the walk that we some talk about then ppl wouldn't be so unresponsive. Think of it there is so much hypocrisy that people just have had enough. Live the life and they will see the difference that Christ makes

usually it's because a lot of people who are going on about salvation through jesus don't really want to talk about it, they just want to shout platitudes and be agreed with.
After countless dead-end conversations people get jaded and assume that everyone who asks to talk about jesus is this way, and figure why waste the time.
