I started by being a buser at Red Robin Restaurant. It helps you to learn the atmosphere, customers, employees, menu etc. And that way you will find out if you really like the place or not. Once they have already hired you as a buser they are more than likely to hire you on as a waiter later. I would suggest applying at a place you like to eat. Then you can suggest your favorite meals, you will know the menu and you know that you already like the environment. I really don't know the restaurants in that area but go for something fun...I can't stand the snobs that work at and eat at upscale restaurants. Red Robin is a gourmet hamburger place that also serves pastas, salads, steaks, and just about anything you want. I loved the atmosphere...music, young people working there, young people eating there, and great food. Good luck! I would definitely suggest getting a hosting or busing job at the restaurant you eat at most and after you know the ropes...apply for a waiting position!

I just found this on the Red Robin Website:
Red Robin - Northwoods
1750 N. Loop 1604 East
San Antonio, TX 78232

Mention that you have skills because of "customer service" is the kiss of death. Bartending schools tell people to say that, its an industry joke. Get a job as a server and see what the restaurant business is all about and learn the lingo. Then be willing to work any, any bar shift no matter how slow. Its the foot in the door.

Just go over to the river walk and you will find out. The average take home is over $200 per day :-)
