I think they are both terrible. Think of the depression and hopelessness one must feel to be motivated to kill herself. Homicide also involves some very terrible to experience emotions (for most people at least). I suppose in the grand scheme of things it would be plausible to believe that since homicide is a violent crime against another person, it is "wronger" than suicide.

Very very touchy subject. if your trying to contradict the bible, get your sources right. I agree with a previous answer that the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy, but still the intricacy of the forgiveness process for suicide is unknown. Now on a different level, forgiveness from others left behind and affected by the actions taken by that individual, well, hard to say. i know how i felt after my best friend died, and i know how his parents and other friends felt. there is no closure with a suicide, no one to blame, though some do find one, but with a homicide there is some one to blame and some one to pay for the crime. today's society likes to see people be reprimanded for the pain that they cause or, just because they want to see some one pay for their loss. like i said touchy subject, but the severity of damage done to others, suicide is worse, i know this first hand.

I have lost several friends and acquaintances to homicide. In fact, I was almost a homicide if not for the surgeon who saved my life in 1985. As horrible as homicide is, suicide is devastating to the loved ones left behind. On 9/2/06 my son's friend took her life at the age of 17. I was very close to her. We talked frequently on the phone. Her mother wouldn't let her out of her room, with the exception of going to school, for 2 years! She graduated in June of '06 Valedictorian of her class. She was accepted to NYU. She would have been 18 on October 28 of this year. Her father is a doctor. He took her to a psychiatrist who prescribed her medication. I know she was so depressed and hopeless. He should have taken her mother to the psychiatrist, I think she was the one who needed the help. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Jordan. I made a promise to her that she will not be forgotten and I will not let her death be in vain. And I know she believes me because I feel her with me all the time. I am proud to have had the honor of getting to know this wonderful young woman who had so much love to give and who taught me so much in the 2 short years I knew her.

The Catholic Church, not Christ, made suicide the ultimate sin. They had to do that because they telling folks every day that the next life was better than this one and people were commiting suicide because they were miserable.
Homicide has always been condemned, but do not confuse "killing" with "murder". It has always been acceptable to defend yourself and yours. The commandment "Thou shall not kill." is a mistranslation. It should be "Thou shall not murder."

Homicide is not universally unethical. For example, killing Hitler could be justified by arguing the defense of many lives. Suicide can not be justified because it avoids the responsibility of existence which was given to us.

Well, in God's eyes there is no degree to sin. Whteher you are a murderer, a child molester or a liar. It is all the same to Him. The only way to be free from sin is to trust Jesus Christ as saviour. Now, on this earth it just means that your punishment should be more severe for the sin you commit as the law dictates, but to god as far as eternal judgem, ent it is all the same. sin is sin.
God in Leviticus (when we lived under law) gives out strict guidelines and punishment for certain sins.

Suicide contradicts the natural inclination of the human being to preserve and perpetuate his life. It is gravely contrary to the just love of self. It likewise offends love of neighbor because it unjustly breaks the ties of solidarity with family, nation, and other human societies to which we continue to have obligations. Suicide is contrary to love for the living God.- Also as humans we can never judge one's soul, "he/she will go to hell", but rather their actions and the morality ( do they have destructive consequences?) of those actions . We must apply those judgements to our own lives. No matter what theologically inane fundamentalists say, no one but God can ever judge the human soul, it is too complex for us to discern.

If you commit homicide and then confess your sins you get forgiven, and when you die go to heaven. But if you commit suicide you are already dead and you cannot confess your sins. You will go straight to hell. Heaven or hell? You decide.
