Do they get your clothes as clean? Also, I know you have to use less detergent, but is that the special detergent made for those machines, or does that apply to regular detergent as well?

I own a Whirpool Cabrio washer and dryer.

They ROCK.

It does the same as 3 "traditional" loads of convnetional washers in one load. I can wash comforters at home.

The machines use different detergent becuase it is more concentrated. You can't use "regular" detergent, it won't get the clohes clean.

I've had a great experince. You save a lot of money on laundry detergent by using less, and get more done faster. With 3 kids, that is huge. My new machine uses 40% less water so my water bill dropped by about $40 a quarter. Laundry now is a matter of a couple of hours instead of all weekend.

Bottom line -- since there is no agitator it has less wear and tear on the clothes. It cleans tons better than my old washer. It is well worth paying the extra to get one. I am never going back.

You use less of the regular detergent, but special HE detergent is used as directed on the instructions. My water bill is so much lower with this machine.
I do wonder about the wear and tear on the clothing, and towels though. In my mind having less water in the wash means that the clothes themselves could be abrasive during the wash and rinse cycles. I just feel like my towels are really hard. I have a whole house water filtering system. It takes out the grime from the water, but I don't know if this makes the water harder or not. Anybody have an idea?

I prefer front load washers, less wear and tear, cleaner clothes, they do use less detergent - you don't need any special detergent, just regular detergent.

Hi,
I believe that front loaders would be easier on your clothes, because the clothes are basicaly tumbled on top of themselves, compared to the agitated effects of conventional washers.
Hope this helps, Dave
