I don't consider the Buell a Harley. Why do all those jap bike builders try to imitate the looks and sounds of a Harley but Harley doesn't try to make any thing that looks like a jap bike?

Because it doesn't work that way. The looks of a Harley are what people want. Harley is successfulI with their look and sound and so the Jap bike builders have to copy it in hopes of being successful as well. Why would Harley want to copy a less desireable look and sound? It would be suicide for Harley to copy a Jap bike design. Ya, you guessed it, I am a Harley rider.

The Jap builders got wise and started making bikes that looked cool like the Harleys instead of the nerdy moped looking things, and they are nice looking bikes and cant tell the diffrence one from the other except that the jap bikes are out cruising down the highway, country roads and everywhere else the asphalt leads , The Harleys all set in front of the local tavern begging there owners to take them further than the county line, of course the Harleys do get trailored into the big bike events ,

Friend bought a Buell . His words," I got tired of everyone riding Jap bikes that look like Harleys, so I bought a Harley that looks like a Jap bike".
The Ultra Classic is a rip-off of the Kaw Voyager.

Harley is trying to imitate that the fit, finish and reliability of Jap bikes.

Harley has a pretty tight grip on the market now. Why would they rock the boat? The Electra Glide is similar in the seat and trunk configuration, but it also looks classier with the engine and all. The Japanese builders are forced to make the look-a-likes in order to get any market share at all, and their price has to be lower to move them, else the buyer would just go get a Harley.

Because the Japs have never invented anything, they have stolen all their idea's from American's.

Goldwing was designed by an american and the design was sold to the japs. They just perfected it and made it better.

If you look at the FLH Road King, it's a touring bike just like the Gold wing, in fact, Goldwing was created in the lines of the FLH. HD.

Give em time, they've ruined every bike they've made lately they might as well become what they are...... A jap imitator!!!!! Now that all the japs are harley wanna-be's. There is nothing honorable about having a new harley these days, it doesn't mean a thing now that we have all these 21st century "bikers" cough, cough,

They don't want to risk it after the DISASTER of trying to market a dirt bike about 30 years ago.

A better question would be: Why doesn't Harley make a bike that has the QUALITY and RELIABILITY of a Goldwing.

P.S. BikerBob, the Japanese don't "HOPE" to succeed, they already own the market. They're building copies of Harleys to get even more of it.

I dont't know? Maybe the Goldwing design sold more bikes per year than anyother bike design. An not to mention the comfort of the Goldwing is perfect for any rider.

Fork rebuild/revalve/respring: $300+
Rear shock rebuild/revalve/respring $400+
Associated maintenance for a full-fairing bike $400+
Performance: priceless

HD doesn't make any money off of any of this, so doesn't even try. Their money comes mostly from their line of "lifestyle" accessories, why pour money into motorcycle engineering if most of their customers just want the chrome bits?
