It's not a "religion" -- it's an ideology. The best place to research it is in the writings of Plato. One of the dialogs, is in fact titled "The Sophist".

It's the ideology that Truth does not exist, and that if a good speaker can convince the audience that, for example, he knows just as much as a doctor, even though he isn't one, and may advise them to do things that were harmful to them, then that's just as good as the doctor.

The practice is predominant in American culture today, which is actually a threat to our future as a nation.
