With all the talk about "too many immigrants" and this being land that belonged to Native Americans (which includes those from Central and South America)... have you ever considered that all the technology and conveniences that make USA what it is... probably would not be here if not for colonization? What do you think?

Some have misunderstood: I'm not implying that "only Europeans had the brain power"- it's just that Europeans DID build the USA into what it is today.

Starfish, I think YOU need to pick up a book! Start with this one: "How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World & Everything in It by Arthur Herman.

http://www.amazon.com/How-Scots-Invented-Modern-World/dp/0609809997/ref=pd_sim_b_1/102-2232892-9008159?ie=UTF8

My question was: if the Native Americans, from South, Central, & North America, had
been left alone- would they still be choosing to live off the land as they had?

Remember that the colonists came from a civilized society into basically a wilderness.
They were enormously outnumbered, once Europeans found this continent. So- would they still be riding horses, shooting buffalo,
making little beads, and all that?

Ken s -- interesting breakdown of possibilities!! :) One comment though: Japan DOES colonize. Its country is so crowded, mostly mountainous, that its people have been spreading out for years.

Check out this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese-Brazilian
Brazil is the host country of the largest Japanese community outside Japan (numbering about 1.3 million).

There are a number of South American countries who have Japanese leaders and large Japanese populations. Read the news from Chile and Peru, for instance.

There is also a large Japanese population in Australia:

http://www.american.edu/TED/japgolf.htm

Japan has few golf courses, due to scarcity of land: it's cheaper to fly to Australia to play golf than to use golf courses there.

The greatest natural resource of Japan is the ingenuity of the people.

I certainly do not underestimate the brain power of other nations and races.

ooo... good fun question.

Well... this goes beyond the simple thing of Mr Columbus not getting lost. This would have to imply that Europeans were not adventurous or wanting to expand their land. Otherwise they would have came here no matter what.

So... based on Europeans not wanting to discover new places or conquer new lands, where does that leave us?

Asia...
China walled themselves in, so probably not them.

The Mongols had the largest connecting empire with only the Europeans pushing them back. So they have a good chance to have crossed here instead.

Japan did not do alot of expansion.

Australia is out.

Pacific Islanders are out ... too peaceful.

Alaska is out... also too peaceful.

Perhaps some of the Arab tribes... the Muslims were going good for a long time.

So my vote would probably be for the Mongols, as they were blood thirsty and expansion hungry more than any other non-European that I can think of.

Now part two... the technology.

Well, Mr Ghangis Khan killed all men excluding the artisans .. so if the Mongols would have stayed on that premise.. technology would be further along than it is today and probably also less crime do to the severe punishments they administered.

Eventually there would be some kind of contact, either thru a ship lost at sea during a storm or some other explorer. But lets say that it they never came here. Native American populations would eventually outgrow tribal mobility and they would have to learn to farm and raise animals for large masses or they'd starve and implode on themselves. Eventually large settlements would grow into towns and cites, maybe not what we see now, but through the eventual contact with Europe, America might be seen as was India by the UK just before Ghandi, a big mess of unorganized people.

That is the most retarded thing i have ever heard. I am not even trying to be nasty. Are insinuating that only Europeans had the brain power to come up with modern technology. HA. You need to check your history, and not that bs thats in middle school text books. Get a clue, European colonists were a plague on the world. Have YOU ever thought about where the world would be had they stayed their asses at home. How many societies would still be standing had those cocky bastards kept their manifest destiny where it belonged and respected diversity around the world. Pick up a book.

I think that the Native American culture would advance. I mean this is the age of instant information. Eventually there would be some form of communication between the Europeans and the Native Americans. The U.S. would probably be a form of United nations of Native American tribes.

Immigration is not a problem. It is illegal immigration that is causing the problem. We have no idea who these people are. Many have criminal records. They are putting a huge strain on our schools and hospitals. The taxpayer has to cover these costs. We have no problem with people who come in legally.
