I am 19 years old. When I was about 16 I found a fairly large, hard lump right beneath my right ear. it scared me a lot! so i went to the doctor and had him take a look. he said it was swollen lymph nodes and not to worry. it went down eventually, and it never hurts. for the past couple of years it gets big/hard and then very small/soft off and on again- i especially feel it a bit sore when the weather changes or i am under stress.

i noticed it swelled again today and was wondering if i should go to the doctor again. or is this something i should just deal with? thanks!

dear royal,
shut the hell up. it is not a brain tumor. why bother answering if you're going to be a jerk about it?

thank you to everyone else who answered! :) i will likely go to the doctor and see if it's something that will just be there off and on or if i may have it drained. thanks.

no-- nothing to worry about probably. if it is your lymph node (and it certainly sounds like it!), its swelling b/c its doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing- fighting some kind of wanna-be infection. just if you have a fever or have accompanying body aches, headaches, etc-- then go see your MD-- it may be leading into a sinus infection, ear infection, etc.

See an ENT. It might be a parotid cyst that needs to be drained or removed.

Maybe it can be drained. Ask the Dr. Tell him it bothers you.

if you go to the doctor ask him why it happens and if there is anything to treat it or is it just something you have to live with.
