It would have been more polite and well mannered. Slavery would have been replaced by farm equipment for economic reasons. Laws would have been passed requiring owners to retrain their slaves instead of just casting 4 million of them off into society. Government subsidized loans would have been made available for the land owners to convert so that they could remain competitive with the rest of the world. Blacks would have transitioned to a legacy of industry and modernization. Segregation would still exist perhaps but it would exist on a more equal but seperate basis than it does now. Everyone would be better off. Ecomomics would have driven the change.
This, by the way, was the actual plan that Lincoln invisioned. He never wanted to just set the slaves free all at once. He invisioned the states eliminating slavery on a case by case basis with the federal government reimbursing the slave owners for their property and setting up training centers for the newly freed slaves. We did not have to kill 700,000 of ourselves, destroy the economy of the southern states, and set the country back 10 years in order to accomplish less.

Many historians believe that neither the United States or the Confederate States of America would have survived very long as nations. The Confederacy would likely have split into thirteen nations, the United States would most likely have broken up along regional lines: New England, the Midwest, the western states, etc.

If the south was successful in seceding from the union the allies would have lost WWII. That is if there would have been a second world war. Since entering WWI was an unpopular decision, the confederate states would most likely not have entered the war. If WWI was lost to the Germans there wouldn't have been a WWII.
But the fantasies are endless.

There would be 2 different countries, the USA and the confederation states. We would hate each other and be big rivals in many things like economics and sports.
Today about Iraq...
Considering that Bush was from the south he'd be pres of the south.
But still about 9/11?? Would that have happened? I highly doubt it because we would not be what we are today/

The US would be Nazi Germany now becasue we would be divided and the south would have the power to not enter in the war which they wouldn't because of their state power instead of Nation Power. And the US would have fallen and so would have Britan and we would be worshiping Hitler.

I don't think they ever could have won, the Union was just too strong.
But I think even if they did, they would have had to modernize and abolish slavery as most developed countries by then would have had to change. Hopefully anyhow.
