Yes, because people's opinions are based on what they see and hear, and their perceptions of them. Could Democracy survive in an environment like that? Well the general public would think so because it would be all they know, however in reality they would be living in a semi-communistic society.

In a way yes because people tend to base their opinions off of what they see, hear, and learn for themselves. If their view of the world is "altered", their hearing of, and gathering of information tampered with; then what they learn will not be what they themselves would normally come up with. Hence control of opinion is achieved. This alleged "democracy" would survive as long as people would do nothing about the situation. It just wouldnt be the same democracy that so many brave people have fought and died for.

All that we know is from the sense organs, so chopping off even one would mean one channel of information being cut off....
Democracy is just an extension of the basic survival instincts made more complex, and stretched or attempted to be stretched beyond the normal and natural span of time....
So, along with the survival tools, democracy to has to receive a set back.

If all information that you receive is from a controlled source, all of your decisions would be based on that source. That is why when children start school, reach their teenage years and start to mingle with people outside of their norm, they start having their own opinions. This can be good or bad depending what they expose themselves to and the types of people they allow to influence them. That is why you should make sure that they have the basics and a strong knowledge of boundaries and what is expected from you in the real world. No democracy could not survive.

No one can control other peoples opinions unless they give up control to another person.
That said I think that if we weigh all the information presented and take into consideration what we feel fundamentally as people then yes democracy has a chance...it is only if we allow ourselves to do these things instead of taking the path of less resistance and let other people do the thinking for us...I vote and volunteer in my community..

Yes, they control people's opinions. Take North Korea, for example. The government controls the press, and the people of North Korea have a common belief fed to them from the government. Another case in point is our own press here in the U.S.. Years ago, journalism prided itself on being unbiased. But today, the press feeds us the stories they want us to have, put the spin on it that THEY want in order to evoke the emotions and opinions that the press wants the general population to have. In this way, the press can (and I believe does) mold public opinion to be that which THEY want (which I believe is liberal minded viewpoints. )
