Make sure that you are sleeping in a comfortable bed. Once I made my bed more comfortable, I was able to get a lot better sleep. I bought one of those Therafoam (I think that's the name; where your body contours to the foam) matresses for your bed; it is so comfortable to sleep on. If you like pillows make sure they are exactly to your comfort, and you have as many or less as you will need. Make sure the temperature is okay to what you prefer. If it's too hot or too cold it could keep you from sleeping peacefully through the night. Make sure that the noise level is set to where you want...some people like the T.V. or radio on..while others need it to be completely quite in the room. There are also these machines that you can buy that play relaxing and soothing sounds...such as the rain..a waterfall...etc. (I have one in my room; there really relaxing). Depending on what time you have to get up in the morning..it may be a good idea to make sure you have dark blinds or curtains hanging up..to block the sunlight from coming in your room early in the morning. It would probably be a good idea to make sure that you try to clear your mind as much as possible..before laying down to go to bed (If I try to go to sleep with a lot on my mind, I continue to toss and turn). A hot bath..can also be relaxing just before bathtime..this could also help clear your mind a little..before going to bed. Good luck.

A few ideas: Take a yoga class it is very relaxing and usually at the end of the class there is a time period to lie down and experience a deep relaxation, once you are trained you can use that technique by yourself when going to bed, it makes a peaceful night.
Get a therapeutic massage, or a cranioSacral therapy session. or some type of body work that allows stress relief and sometimes lets you see the source of your problem so you can remedy it.
Check your stress level during the day take small breaks, breathe deeply, sit quietly a few minutes. Take time for yourself.
best wishes

Seriously, try breathright strips. This is not an ad. All the other common sense stuff really works, too. Not too much caffeine. Don't think about really heavy stuff at night. Solving you're biggest problems really works well! Getting at least a half hour walk, maybe not right at bed time, and watching what you eat before bed ( a few hours ahead. ) And a cool temp. room.

Listen to a Yoga Nidra CD. The depth of relaxation reached during this meditation, rivals the best sleep and in some cases can be used in place of sleep to refresh.

lay face up. stretch every muscle in your body, start at your feet and slowly work your way up. Sleep in a cool room, most important.
