Halloween is a Christian holiday. It is the evening before(een) All saints' day (Hallow). Though not celebrated by all Christian churches, it is a Christian holiday.
The day Samhain is a Pagan holiday that coinsides with the Christian holiday, predating it by many many years.

Some claim that All Saints' day was created by the Christians to form a bridge for Pagans to Christianity. Samhain is one of the most powerful Pagan holidays, representing the DEATH of the God, rather than the BIRTH of the Devil. (BTW.... Pagans don't believe in the Devil). The God will be reborn, just as the Christian God, in the spring.

Christians often stir up animosity toward paganism at this time because it is a dear holiday to us. We do celebrate in covens or circles or alone, in parks or in the woods. It is for us a time where the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead become thin. It is a time of great psychic and magical power. It isn't a time for sacrificing cats or dogs or any other animal. We don't poison trick-or-treaters, stuff children in ovens, or anything else we're accused of other than celebrating, like our Christian counterparts, a day that has deep meaning to us.

If anyone is saying it's the Devil's birthday, then it must be a Christian as Pagans don't recognize the Devil.

Halloween or All Hallows Eve at the start was once a excursion that was once each solemn and festive. It celebrated the very finish of the harvest season (which concerned the slaughter of farm animals for meals in the course of the iciness months) and most commonly took location in international locations corresponding to Ireland and the British Isles. At this time of the yr, persons inspiration the door among worlds was once open and that persons one million) needed to be on look after in opposition to spooky religious forces and a couple of) might speak with household who had died. They could make little collectible figurines out of turnips (no longer pumpkins--most effective Americans did that many many centuries later) and did spooky matters to scare away spooky matters. This culture persists in Halloween lore. The excursion was once a time to mirror approximately loved ones, lifestyles, and demise, thank God(s) for the harvest and get ready for the bloodless and darkish days of iciness. It was once on the whole at the start celebrated in the course of the entire moon of overdue October/early November after which got here to be celebrated on Oct 31 or Nov one million. When Christianity took over Europe, it converted this excursion, which was once referred to as Samhain to All Hallows Eve (which was once slurred into the phrase Halloween)--an afternoon to recollect persons of the religion who had kicked the bucket. The "Devil" is an invention of the Christian Church and was once no longer a aspect of the tradition of the early persons who first celebrated what grew to become "Halloween." So no, Halloween is NOT the Devil;s birthday.

Why else the Catholic Church had a big hand it that myth.In trying to gather in more converts from the Pagan/Witchcraft Religion they changed the name of the holy-day to All Hallows eve from the Pagans Samhain(NEW YEAR).And put ALL Saints day after it. the plan didn't go as well as they wanted. with what they knew of the religions(I.E. riding brooms and such stuff). They started calling them Devil worshipers .Which is misnomer as Devil means a follower of SATAN. And the Pagans/witches do not believe in or worship the Christian SATAN or DEVIL.there are finer points to the story of why but this is the basic reason.
Most of the other stuff came from England.Jack o'Lanterns and dressing up in otherwordly costumes. Also Trick or Treat.

Probably because halloween has its origins in the pagan holiday of samhain or All Hallows Eve (when the veil between the worlds is thinnest) and the monotheistic religions have been demonising everything pagan for centuries.

I"m guessing it's because people will dress as devils, witches and the like. I'm christian... but I also LOVE Halloween! In fact my daughter was born on Halloween and we have a HUGE bash. To each their own.

I'd love information on the true origin.. will look.... http://www.history.com/minisites/halloween/?page=origins

Haven't heard that one yet. I have heard it called the "devil's day" however. I think it started way back in history when it was widely believed that "All Hallow's Eve" allowed the demons to walk the earth. Guess I will research the 'birthday' issue.

That's probably just bored people who want to make anything that's enjoyable to others, something bad, or wrong. Just ignore it. It's a fun time of the year. I enjoy Halloween MORE than Christmas.....less stress!

"halloween" as you call it (Also knows as All saints day, All hallows eve or All souls day by christian religions) has been around for thousands of years. To the Celtics (people lived in what is today England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) and others this is the beginning of the new year, a time to give thanks to the god and goddess for the harvest.
It is a day to honor Samhain (sow-ween).

Cuz people are way too uptight. They need to quit taking things so serious. It is just a fun day where people dress up and act silly and go to spook houses. Happy Halloween!
