No i think they should be put on public display and publicly humiliated and if a serious crime like rape or murder then the victims family should be allowed to torture them as they did their loved one, but maybe slowly and painfully.

Technically, yes. When you are in solitary confinement you have no access to the outside world, unless you have a window in your cell. These inmates are not allowed to socialize with other inmates, communicate with the outside world, and in many cases are not allowed outside even. Since human beings require companionship or contact with other humans to maintain sanity (a proven fact), being isolated in a chamber for months, not having a clue what time it is or what day it is, or having anyone to speak to other than themselves, can be absolute torture. So it is a pretty terrible punishment and quite fitting for some prisoners.

I think that aside from the death penalty, knowing that you are going to die---solitary confinement is probably the worst punishment for a prisoner because they are alone with their own thoughts and concious.

I believe it is. They do not get any free time outside and they sit in the dark the entire time. They are not let out for any reason. So it must be the worst type of punishment. I don't understand why they don't do it more often.

Nah, at least in there, they don't have to worry about being attacked, except by the occasional guard.
