It may be easier these days but I have no way to access my medical history, and my sons only have one side of theirs. If there is a way to get this without hiring expensive lawyers and agencies I would be most interested.

Subj obviously is not adopted, so is unable to understand.

I AM an adoptee, and I understand totally where you are coming from.

The reason it is so difficult, is because way back when adoption became an acceptable opption for people, it was considered a sin, disgraceful, and more, for a child to be born out of wedlock (most common reason for a child to be adopted out at the time). Therefore, to protect the mother ... who often spent 6 months in a home for unwed mothers prior to birth of the child ... and to protect the child, supposedly, everything was kept sealed and secret.

Times have changed since then, and there is not the big issue over it as it was then. Also there is a lot more understanding about the needs of adopted children, so there are moves to change things, including open adoptions and semi-open adoptions. Also, in some states (at least one, anyway, Oregon), it is possible to get your original birth certificate from the state.

There are a lot of online search sites, and also people who will help others in the search, some for free or low fees.

Here are links to some:

The only way to get medical information is to first find out the names of your birthparents.

I wish you luck.

It is normally difficult because adoptive parents avoid giving the information to the adopted and they normally move out of the neighbourhood also to avoid their adopted getting any ideas from them. Why do u really hanker for it at this age?
