I'm too spoiled on jeans to ever consider a corset and 17000 layers of dresses...just imagine how much leg shaving all those dresses would put us through! Or maybe that's my complex -- can't wear a skirt or dress if I haven't shaved.
No...pretty to look at, but impractical.

Good grief, I hope NOT...lol! I would not look forward to wearing a bodice or a corset of any type and wear some weird dress where my boobs are practically popping out of the neckline.
Not to mention my hair would take forever to do.
But the costumes are very nice looking and I do agree with you on that. I just wouldn't want to wear them on a regular basis...maybe for a costume party but not every day..
By the way, this was not the 1740s; this was circa 1770 or something like that...give or take a few years.

It's said that every ten to twenty years history repeats itself, thus fashions seem to linger back to the past, but very modernized. I think that there's a lot of very old fashions still in the industry that have come back from time to time.
You just have to look closer. Peasant tops are very much like the Greek chiton and linen shirts with one-inch sewing on them are very much like medieval shifts that common people wore. I just saw in a fashion magazine that a French designer had his models in extremely white make-up with Marie-Antoinette-like clothes on. Check out some some fashion magazines or look it up on yahoo! and you'll see a lot of similarities between 'now' and 'then'. Personally, I love historical fashion as well.

I don't think they'll make a big comeback because they're too uncomfortable. But I did see on tv that someone is making underwear inspired by the costumes in Marie Antoinette. Mabe someone will make clothes inspired by the movie but easier to wear.

No matter how elegant and beautiful the dress was from those time periods, no one in they're right mind would dress like that nowadays.
It's just too uncomfortable, too complicated. People want, need, simplicity.
I agree that they were "ever so lovely." However, I wouldn't wear them if you paid me.

If you all of a sudden have more time in you life to put on all of those clothes, I suppose they could make a comeback. Plus with global warming, you would get pretty hot wearing all of that material.

I'd think so. Maybe not so "old" looking as they were before. But there are some pretty nice vintage things out there and that's what a lot of girls go for.
