Conservatives carry these ideals:
Balancing the budget, small govt, limited govt, moral values...

But the incumbent Reagan-inspired Neoconservatives have impulsively done this:
$8.5 trillion debt, big business-supported government, new controversial laws being passed all the time because of "national security" that increases the power of the govt to the point beyond extremity, and misleading the American public about the war without reluctance.

If anyone supports these things Bush has done, and tries to justify the reasons for doing them, they are a NEOconservative, and not a respectable conservative.
If this describes you, then YOU have betrayed your core conservative beliefs! How do you feel about that?

I have talked to many former republicans who have become libertarians in order to remain true to the core conservative beliefs.
They are better conservatives than the republicans are!

These folks are RINO's. Republican in name only. They have run up the biggest deficit in history. They went into a war based on a lie with no strategy to fight it or get out. One Repub after another has been forced to resign because of scandal. They have all but destroyed the middle class by allowing the outsourcing of jobs and the flood of illegal immigration. There's more but I think you get the picture.
Don't be fooled by Libertarians. They are led by a man who is a crackpot and has been jailed for a number of years. They do not offer a solution, just more division and corruption.

What Reagan and Bush have both done is cut taxes and stimulate the economy. There is no denying that we have record amounts of tax revenue going into the treasury despite all the challenges the economy is facing. The problem now is the same one that its always been. Congress wastes money like there's no tomorrow. Both parties have and will continue to do this. Then the party out of touch goes and criticizes the party in power and runs as outsiders ready for change. Then they get in and become just as corrupt as wasteful as the people they just replaced. The cycle then continues.

I don't understand what new laws have been passed that increase the gov power to the point beyond extremity. The one that lets them listen in on terrorsist phone calls to terrorsit countries? Letting the gov hold terrorist and keep them up late in order to get info about future plots? I haven't seen any difference in my life because of any new gov powers.

I'm not an expert on Iraq so I won't say much about that except that if he had intel saying Sadam was going to nuke us I'm happy he went after him.

Well, I've never categorized my self as a conservative but I think the reason they "betrayed the core conservative values" is because they never had one. They just said they have conservative values because that is what people want to hear. Think about it: who doesn't want a balanced budget, small limited government that actually cares about people? And moral values? Well most people in general care about moral values. Nobody wants to live in a society where morals are down and people only care about themselves and their own wants and needs.
I don't think that those who betray their values really believe in what they say they believe-in.

The Liberals are better at conninng the masses. That's where the votes are, and that's why the so-called Conservatives have allowed the Liberals to push them to the Left. Votes win elections. Votes mean power, clout, and $$$$$. Today's so-called Conservatives are phony (Pseudo?) conservatives.

Oh, I am strongly inclined to agree with you. And you left out another big example.

For me, one of the most important reasons for supporting the Republican Party was to end liberal judicial activism.

Only to see it replaced with conservative judicial activism? Like Bush v. Gore?

That's the main reason I won't support the GOP any more.

You mix conservative and Republican. Not all Republicans are conservatives. I wish they were. See Senators Chafee, Snow, Collins, McCain, Warner, Dewine, and Hagel. Note there are enough in just the Senate to block the conservative agenda.

Republicans follow the money, nothing more, nothing less. Honor and moral values are NOT profitable.
