Since theres no means of actually consenting to or not I don't see how any animal sexual relations could be classed as rape, they just accept it for what it is. what on earth made you ask this at 4am?!!

The study of animal sexuality (and primate sexuality especially) is a rapidly developing field. It used to be believed that only humans and a handful of species performed sexual acts other than for procreation, and that animals' sexuality was instinctive and a simple response to the "right" stimulation (sight, scent). Current understanding is that many species that were formerly believed monogamous have now been proven to be promiscuous or opportunistic in nature; a wide range of species appear both to masturbate and to use objects as tools to help them do so; in many species animals try to give and get sexual stimulation with others where procreation is not the aim; and homosexual behavior has now been observed among 1,500 species and in 500 of those it is well documented. Ferrets are brutal and they rape the females and damage them when they bite them around the neck and face and drag them about.

Ummm, it goes something like this:
1. Females in heat will entertain any males that they see as "Attractive".
2. The Alpha Male (Big Dog BadAss) has the job of preventing this if possible since "He' is the biggest and baddest and his genes will insure that only the "Best" of his kind will survive.
3. The other males just want a piece of the action and some will risk their lives for it. If the Male is seen as "Attractive" 9he brings her some of her favorite berries and he's not bad looking then she will accept him. BUT if he gets caught he's going to pay the price (maybe even death)
4. Then there are the males who come courting and don't bring berries and are butt ugly. Well, when they try and engage the female she Screams Bloody Murder and the interloper is in for ONE BIG WHOOPASS! ;-) If he's lucky he may live to try again.

I saw a documentary on it once. Male dolphins are known to keep females hemmed in for several days against her will and have their way with her. Stoats or ferrets will invade a burrough where a mother ferret has a litter and, while she is out hunting, rape the young females, the sperm or fertilised eggs lie dormant until the females reach a certain age then have baby ferrets. Seals are also known to rape unconsenting females, as are chimpanzees.

Have a female cat in the barn that puts up heck of a fight when males attempt to mount her when she isnt in season, she killed a tom other day, bit his neck clean through and he bled to death. Wonder if human girls started doing stuff like that males might learn what no means

Animals react by instinct.
It is instinctive for the female to wait for the strongest male so that she has a better chance of strong, healthy offspring. The less strong male goes away to try to win another day.
Survival of the fittest is recognized as the best thing by the herd.
However, humans have lost the instinctive part of their make up. They now use free will & unfortunately this means some males decide to take what has been denied to them regardless of the prope manner of things.

Well, the word itself was created by man.
So, in the animal world the word rape does not exist. Animals have sex to procreate, there is no real consent involved. The females go into heat, which trigger the male to respond and then you have sexual reproduction; well, after courtship, et cetera...
Only very few animals have sex for pleasure, so in those cases maybe rape exists but, that is a big maybe.

Yes, though obviously not in the same light of 'morality.'
Some years ago I was with a bunch (6, i think) female colleagues in a small park outside our building in the middle of London.
We watched as a Duck and Drake arrived together and were clearly 'tired.'
They settled together on a patch of grass in the sunshine when another Drake arrived and straight away began 'pecking' at the Duck's tail feathers. She clearly wasn't interested and moved away - only to be pursued by the interloper. The other Drake was in no condition to do anything and so, the new arrival chased after the Duck to the point where she took off and he followed.
She managed some four or five circuits of the park, getting lower and lower on each one, before coming in for a 'belly landing' with this Drake in hot pursuit. And, once she had come to a halt, he simply mounted her and 'did what he had to do' ~ and ~ to my surprise, ALL of my colleagues 'CHEERED.'
Once he'd finished, the Drake hopped off and made straight for the pool of water where the central fountain was, and he had a 'really good dip,' whilst my colleagues looked on with smiling faces and then something approaching a round of applause from them ~ for such a magnificent performance!
For myself, I saw it as 'nature doing what nature does,' but I was really SURPRISED at the reactions of my colleagues.
Sash.

With alot of animals the mate for survival purposes where as humans will have sex for pleasure as well...
in certain types of whales (ie the blue whale) will pretty much "gang rape" the female, as theres one female in the middle of the circle and bout 8,9 males cirling her will take turns...

Cats do it all the time. Several times I've seen male cats forcibly mate with female cats that were trying to get away.
