Maybe not 50 years, but i'd think eventually they would - 100's and 100's of years from now.

I don't know any examples, but i'm sure theres been something in the past that people did, found out it caused some disease, brushed it off at first, but eventually stopped doing it. We probably look back at that habit and think of it as barbaric or insane, and thats probably what future generations will think about smoking.

I think it's possible. I think we may learn the key to addictions in the brain and with addiction removed from the equation it won't have a purpose. Or there will be some less harmful addiction to replace it with. I can't see it persisting that much longer in the face of growing public disapproval. I feel a slight guilt now smoking almost anywhere outside of my home. And that's just tobacco! Hwuppah!

Smoking is becoming less and less 'cool' in the US; however, I strongly doubt that the US will ever become 100% non-smoking. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug, like heroine, cocaine, or any other addictive substance. As we've seen with other drugs in the US, people will continue to use despite any laws in place.

No, why should they. I think the government should encourage smoking so people don't live so long. Either that or provide free health care and pensions to senior citizens.

You know, I don't give a damn one way or the other. It just makes me sick at all this fuss about smoking when guns and drunk drivers kill people yet a smoker is the only one who is blamed for something legal.

Nope. However, in the future, possibly hundreds of years it might happen. But then there might be another type of smoke or drug that might be in use then
