It blew up to about the size of a fist within minutes, and hurt to walk on. This occured 4 days ago, and the size of the bump has reduced to about a golf ball. its mostly soft, I can press on it without it hurting a great deal, other then the bruising, which is minimal. I have been alternating icing it and putting heat on it and keeping the blood flow reduced as much as possible. How long should it take for the bump to go away? B4 I should be worried, I have read stuff about blood clots, or it could just be a shin injury and this is water/blood buildup to protest the shin bone. Any help in reducing my concern would be great, any remedies or help in getting rid of it asap would be great also.

Ice it for 15 on 15 off. I would discontinue the heat as this is not a pulled or damaged muscle that need blood supplied. This is more or a retention of fluid to protect the injured area.

To make the bump smaller you just want to use ice. Ice constricts the blood flow and lowers the fluid retention in the area. Heat has the opposite affect and will inflame the area more by bringing in more blood and more fluid. Personally I would discontinue use of the heat. Heat is good for muscle pain and tears but not good on bumps and bruises.

As always you should consult a doctor to be properly diagnosed, but I doubt seriously its anything worth worrying about.

Happens to me in Field hockeyt with my knee all the time. It sounds like soft tissue damge... in other words, it is nothing serious. I would say take it easy on running too hard but give it a week and you will be fine!

Is what is considered a "frog".. if you plan on playing the game seriously, better invest in some shin guards.
