One day he is open to options, next day he wants to stay and "win", then he compares Iraq to Vietnam, now he is discussing it with the generals, but still talking tough. Indecision, floating trial balloons, or smart politics?

The fact is that the Bush administration has finally realized we need to start getting our troops out. But their plan is to uphold the "stay until we accomplish our mission" and "Cut & Run Democrates" schtick until after the November election. After that they'll start talking about diverting troops away from Iraq ("Cut & Run Republicans" anyone?).
By the way, this isn't fiction or a big secret, James Baker is already gearing up to play a role in this.

"The reponsibility of setting an army in motion must devolve on the general alone; if advance and retreat are controlled from the palace, brilliant results will hardly be achieved. Hence the god-like ruler and the enlightened monarch are content to play a humble part in furthering their country's cause." The Art of War by Sun Tzu

In other words, the politicians should not have anything to do with military matters other than deciding to go to war and sending the armies on their way. A ruler cannot fight a war (as general) from a thousand miles away. Rumsfelt is a jackass

i do no longer think of that's the excellent approach. we've tried the full 'deliver greater troops and rigidity some democracy' till now and it would not artwork! i know that Bush has the excellent of intentions (i do unlike him besides) yet he's thoroughly ignoring the american people! He would not care that the final public of people, Congress, and the worldwide do no longer accept as true with sending much greater harmless people into the line of hearth! So, no, i do no longer think of his approach is the excellent threat, for Iraq or our united states.

Bush wants to win, he knows that if a terrorist state exists they are coming after us. That is the bottom line they are coming after us and it is his job to stop them. Weather Iraq was a terrorist state or not, if we cut and run it will be. And I for one would rather fight them there than here. Bush knows the importance of this and luckily he does not let the liberal losers effect him. Changing strategy is necessary, and letting us know the whole story is not what his job is. he is elected to make these decisions and we need to let him do it.

Well, he doesn't know what the hell he's doing - rather, he doesn't know what President Cheney is doing since he's not there to guide him at that moment, so he just makes things up as he goes along. And what a shock - usually, they're goofy or wrong, or both!

It is hard to translate "stay the course" into a viable plan for Iraq.

Its just him being smart.

He wants to stay in Iraq and win.

He is talking to the generals to see what would be the best course of action to win. He is also talking to them to see if it would be better to leave.

He is letting the people know what he wants to do. Why can't other politicians do such?

His justifications for being there change as often as one of his daughters changes her thong. It's rediculous and indicative of just how screwed up the whole situation is.

Because he is THE worst president in the history of America. He has no clue and never has. The only reason he was re-elected was because he used bigotry to rally the conservative christian right.
