Lol.. I know it is a goofy question, but I am 39 weeks pregnant and due on the 30th! I just would like to know, if I reach 40 weeks and still no baby, if I can ask to be induced and if they will do it. Has anyone ever asked before. Thank you in advance.

Well I have had three. With my second once I went past my due date I asked to be induced. There are many ways to do it. If you are dialated some you may try a pill that they put on your cervix that naturaly starts labor and wears off after an hour if you are ready that will do the trick. They can break water or use patocin which makes contraction harder. Of course one that is started there is no changing your mind.

If you are past the stage where they say you can go any time you can be induced. If they say no you have the right to push a little you are the one preagnant. Also make sure to write up a birthing plan. THat is just a little note you give to the doctors and hospital so everyone knows ahead of time what you want. In it just introduce yourself and if you have partner them as well. Tell them sho is allowed in the room with you during labor(in case you want others their), wether you want natural or epidural, any positions you want to use during labor, what position you want to deliver in, what you want to happen after the baby is out like nursing immedialty if you are going to do that or skin to skin immediatly, wether partner cuts the cord and washes the baby, wether you want the baby to be fed sugar water and if you want the baby in your room at all times, Only being hooked up to nessecary monitars, etc. That way there is no asking they already know. It has worked great for me all three times.

Ask if they have a birthing ball that works great in labor, but who knows everyone is different just done be afraid to move (if you are hooked up to things) to try different things. It actually does help even if you feel you cant move.

Good Luck! You will do GREAT!!

With my second pregnancy, I asked the doctor to induce me, i was a few days off 40 weeks. I was in extreme pain, so he broke my waters, i was already 3 cm anyway. With my 3rd i asked my docotor from about 30 weeks to induce me, ofcourse he said no and I didnt really want to be induced that early (i was serious from about 36 weeks though). He booked an induction for 41 weeks if i had not had the baby, which i did have on my due date. Some doctors just not sympathetic to a pregnant womens pain.

I didn't have to ask, but my doctor and I did discuss how that would work if it came down to it. I think it depends on your doctor, but mine had no problem with it at all as long mine or the baby's health wasn't at risk. He said he would want to induce if I went a week late, but that if at any time I wanted to be induced he would do it. We joked because my mom was coming to town a couple days after my due date and I told him I didn't want her there for the actual birth because she would drive me crazy and he said he could induce me before she got there, hahahahaaa. We were joking, but he was totally cool about it, too, and just wanted me to be happy with the whole thing. He's great that way. Just talk with your doctor and see where they stand on the issue.

your dr wont let you go over 42 weeks and yes u can ask to be induced, i have been with all mine. the first i went over 2 weeks, my second i had at 38 weeks and im preggo now and have a date for induction at 39 weeks.

by the way all this talk of it being so much worse isnt true for everyone, i didnt find it that bad really and opted for no pain meds. if you can handle it then dont drug yourself up and at least see what its like first. cause while it may speed up some labors epidurals slow a lot down too

It generally depends on the size of the baby at the time you ask. I'm not sure if my doctor was just trying to discourage me from being induced but he said that the pain is more severe when you are induced as opposed to the contractions beginning naturally.

Most certainly you could ask. Most Dr.'s will have you come in for a stress test. You will be hooked/strapped to a machine that tells/records babies heart rate, and movements. Dr. will let you go to even past due date, because after all this is a guess, not an exact science. Yes. ask your doctor about being induced if the baby does not arrive by due date.

I am 39 weeks prego and due on theee 26th. A lot of doctors won't induce until your are 2 weeks past your due date. But it wouldn't hurt to ask. My doctor is scheduling a date to induce on the 26th if I have not already had the baby. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Being induced isnt fun believe me. They give you a drip which brings on contractions then they keep upping the dose till your ready 10 cms dialted. It takes a long time and its painful .Hopefully you birth will come about naturally. However if your baby is past its due date the doc may not have a choice but to induce you.

Whether your doctor will do it or not depends on the doctor. However, at 40 weeks, typically, doctors seem to have no problem with it. BUT! let me advise you that induced labors are unbeleivably much more difficult than not. Your contractions will be more severe and tend to be right on top of each other without any breaks to rest, so be careful what you wish for. Congratulations and good luck!

I was induced by my doctor at 39 weeks. i told the doc it was painful to move since the baby had droped down so far. and he said he could induce me, and i said go for it. the medicine didn't work for like 6 hours and then they broke my water and i started having contractions. and like two hours later i had a healthy, beutiful boy. he came out smiling. he was happy to be out in the world. good luck with your little one.
