This is assuming that there is a soul:
Thought is the inner function of you that can be quantified or expressed "I am angry" is a thought. To actually be angry is the function of the soul.

I'm certain you already know what a "thought" is...but, I believe you are confused on what exactly is a soul. To begin with, if you don't believe in the Bible (Gen. thru Rev.), then this answer will mean absolutely nothing to you. But I truly hope you'll at least read it in it's entirety...
To begin with, "soul" is translated from the Hebrew ne'phesh and Greek psy-khe'. Bible USAGE, (not Plato, Oprah, or Dr. Phil) shows the soul to be a person or an animal ...or the LIFE that a person or an animal enjoys. It is not an immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body. Here's proof:
Gen 2:7 says, "...the man came to BE a {ne'phesh}". He was not given a ne'phesh (soul). Many Bible translations render this word (ne'phesh) as soul. Still others inconsistantly render it "being" or "creature" or even "person".
Joshua 11:11 "..they went striking every {ne'phesh} that was in it with the edge of the sword." The soul is here shown to be something that can be touched by the sword, so these souls could not have been spirits
Ezek. 18:4 state clearly, "The soul that is sinning- it itself will die" Again, some translations say "the man" or "the person". But the point being, in original ancient manuscripts, the word that appears at that location is NE'PHESH....SOUL.
In Gen. 1:20, 21, 24, 25, you may see a word that is common in all these Scriptures...that being "creature"...well again, where you see "creature", the original word there is nephesh...soul. Thus showing that animals are souls.
In conclusion, think of it this way...when a person graduates medical school, does he/she GET A DOCTOR..OR DO THEY BECOME A DOCTOR? Likewise, when God Created man, he BECAME A LIVING SOUL...he did not get a soul. Hope you look in your own personal Bible the scriptures/leads I have given you...thank you

This is a really funny question because my friends and I were just talking about this. We were trying to decide what part of you constitutes your "soul" per se. Here's what started the whole thing.
Let's say we could do a brain transplant. Would your brain, if it were transplanted into another person, retain your thoughts? Would it retain your memories? Would it retain your beliefs? Would it think "like you"? Would that person now have your personality??? Now, this is an experiment that has ethical disaster written all over it.
But my conclusion was no. The brain wouldn't carry those things with it. Why, because I think those things are tied in your soul. I think your conscience is your soul. I think your personality is your soul. If your personality is developed at the age of 2 - when most kids can't even talk in complete sentences, doesn't it make sense that there is another intangible piece of you - your personality/your conscience that is your soul? I think so. And I think someone - somewhere is going to transplant a brain at some point and we will get that scientific answer.
The soul, if you pay attention to it, is that little voice inside your chest, located not in your brain, that whispers to you every once in awhile. It's the thing that causes the "coincidences" that saves your life in some cases, it's that think that whispers to you when you have met the person that you are going to marry. It's your personality, it's your moral compass, It's the part of you that is connected to the spiritual side of the world - the part that connects you to the intangible. There is the difference between the thought and the soul.

the only difference is that one exists and the other does not. Thought is real it exists it is happening at all times no matter what. You can know that you are thinking because you can obviously tell that you are thinking. But what is a soul can you feel it, can you sense it, can you in anyway tell what or where it is? No, you can believe that you have a soul, you can believe that you know what a soul is but YOU CAN'T KNOW. The way I look at it is this, if there is a heavan or hell and my "soul" goes to one will I think when I am there? No because my brain is not there, the brain controls all thought, all pain, love, hate, everything so if my "soul" went somewhere I would not be able to feel. This is just my thought of course but I think it is a good one.

The only difference between the two is that your soul is your connection to the world around you, while thought is the way you decide to interact with the world around you. How can you tell the difference? I don't know. Feelings of guilt or remorse for actions of have taken maybe the interaction of soul and thought. Feeling sorry for what we've done might be the souls way of counteracting thought. That's the best I can describe it right now.

Thought is a reflection of how your brain corresponds the world around you. Although large part of your thought process is dependent on what kind os society or culture you belong to. on the other hand soul is something that I personally believe does not exist and so should not have anything to confuse with what thought is. We have created the definition for soul just to justify our existence and so in a way soul siginifies individuality; while thoughts siginify perception.
Two individuals may have the same thoughts but are still different entities.

It could be argued that "thought" and "soul" are the same thing. The fundamental difference, though, is in time. A more accurate word for "soul", though, really, is "mind." Because there's the brain, which is the physical vessel, but then there's the mind. The intangible essence that science cannot account for. At least not traditional science.
So, in that, when you look at the difference between "thought" and "mind," then, really, a thought is really just like a snapshot of the mind at one given time, in one given place. The act of having one thought at one time in one place is itself a function of the mind. And in that, it is a function of the soul, since the two are the same, in my view.

Soul is collective consciousness also it is the mind. And mind is the thought so the thought is indirectly connected with the soul. Because of the soul, a thought arise!

Wonderful question, thank you! Thought is our intellectual process towards understanding and peace. Soul is our true essence, the whole truth that is contained within the polarities of negative and positive. Soul has no need for thought, as it is all knowing.
