I want to attach a steel hood scoop to what has turned out to be an aluminum hood. I heard there were non-ferrous strips that would link the two without allowing interaction. No idea if this is true or where to get them if it is....?!

Ok...not weld - or braze - "attach" in a smooth body-shop manner.

Anyone seen these non-ferrous strips that link the two? I saw them mentioned on Overhaulin a couple years back and have seen or heard nothing about it since.

You get the idea already you can't weld steel to aluminium. You can get strips of metal that are aluminium on one side and steel on the other but the smallest available is 1 inch square. TOO BIG for what you want. try screws, rivets or bolts and smooth off with fibreglass and body filler.

bi-metallic plate. It was manufactured by Dupont under the name DETACLAD. It's explosively bonded. They (until recently) used it to connect the steel structure of ships to aluminum superstructures.

I heard a rumor that whoever acquired it from Dupont has stopped manufacturing - don't know if that's true.

The stuff isn't cheap, so you'd probably be better off using a good epoxy with an interface material (fiberglass or something) to ensure that the Aluminum doesn't touch the Steel

Try pine sap, and cordage made from the inner bark of an old oak tree. It'll hold up bout as well as welding steel to aluminum.!

Not posssible. There are means for the attachment, but direct welding isn't one of them.

Good Luck
