You can't do anything special, if that's what you're asking. Staying close is an individual decision. One he/she will make on their own based on the overall love and care they have for you. Being always straightforward, honest, open, consistent and disciplined will help.

Not to sound flippant..but short of chaining them to you or making them live at home forever, you cannot dictate that your child/children will be as close as you want for life. As they grow, if you nurture that relationship by being a parent before being a friend, they will grow to respect you and the closeness you desire could form from that. Be a responsible, concerned parent, they may hate you in their teen years, but as an adult realize that you were only watching out for their safety and showing the immense love you have for them. Good Luck

I am a father of 3 boys. We are very close. That is because not only am I their father, but I am also their friend. It is possible to be tough and loving at the same time. I am open and honest with them. I treat them with respect and they treat me with the same.

show constant love, give them respect, be considerate, talk with them often, laugh often, cuddle a lot.
This is what I did and both kids are wonderful to me.
