People are answering this mostly one way: Why am -I- here? The other way is: Why are -WE- here? . Yes, YOUR life is what you make of it. Life, in and of ITSELF, is a whole other matter (no pun intended). I don't have the answer per se, but I have a very distinct feeling that is is incredibly simple and that we will all hit ourselves on the forehead and say, "you gotta be kidding me". Something as simple as: Do unto others etc, or Give love without expecting anything in return, or perhaps Learn and Grow. I've done some philanthropic work with the mentally challenged and they are illuminating. They shed light on many things we so-called evolved, privileged, normal types have forgotten. They take pleasure in the smallest of things and feel so much so deeply. They have no death and taxes worries as we poor "aware" types do. Ignorance IS bliss, it seems. If I was pressed for an answer though, I'd say that the meaning of life is to just be a part of it. Participate in anything and everything you can. That explains (to me anyways) why we are built the way we are; with such high mental capacity and such sensitivities. Absorb and evolve, learn from your mistakes, teach others, lead by example and love/forgive others. imho

I like to believe that life is a journey to discovering 'truth' and the importance it holds. Have you ever wondered why it is that we are so compelled to speak the truth when we clearly have had too much to drink? It is our souls way of communicating something that is very real and innate in us by nature, but suppress when sober to live with the decisions we make daily. The meaning of life is simple... to help life along... feed the starving, clothes the homeless, give our last piece of food away in hopes to help a fellow human without the thought of reward or acknowledgment. Once we let go of the all encompassing 'ego' and the 'id' and open our eyes, life makes sense again. The feeling we felt as a child when the world was new floods back to us again...

Is there really a meaning to life? Perhaps God got bored with eternity and created us to entertain Him. Oh, He'll never let you down. You just have to listen to that voice that says do or don't or that feeling in your gut that warns you that you are about to make a mistake. Or that bill board you just passed when you were searching for an answer to a question you've been pondering for a minute or hours or days. Regardless, rejoice in every breath! Life itself is a blessing! Life itself is the meaning!

The meaning of life is to participate in the process of high level energy flowing to lower level energy (i.e. localized entropy).

If you are alive, you automatically are entered in the game. Once you die, the game (and meaning) are over and done - unless the process begins again. But we can't control that or know that it even occurs - so the meaning of life amounts to the process that we experience here and now.

To say it in another way: Life occurs where there is a high degree of energy "contrast". Where there is little or no contrast in energy levels you find less or no life. The "meaning" lies in being creative and balanced with the energy you have available - or perhaps in just being aware of the process and appreciating it. Understand?

I was watching Bertram Russell, the great British philospher being interviewed on a TV show, and this question was asked of him by the show host. Although presumably philosphers spend a good amount of time pondering this question, Dr. Russell thought for about fifteen seconds before he answered. He replied by stating, "I suppose more life". And is'nt that answer interesting in that it is exactly the same reason that Christ gave for his mission on earth: "I come that you may have life more abundantly". We limit our joy and happiness by our own limited thinking and not following the great human teachers. What they teach, like Christ, all revolves around this goal of us having more happiness. joy, confidence, power over self, and all the other positive human emotions that give us more life. The ten commandments all are given so we are not stalled on lesser things that limit or delay that joy that is possible and forthcoming to those who seek it.

Here is a posting that sums up my meaning of life at http://360.yahoo.com/lesliejack if you care to go there.

Due to my conservative religious upbringing, I was taught that the meaning of life is heavily defined in spiritual and religious contexts. What I mean by this is that I was taught that the meaning of life is gained through a personal relationship with God. That is a basic explanation and to elaborate more, I will add that my ultimate personal belief of God is that while He does judge and punish, He is the Creator of love and when we come to a point in our lives when we can love most selflessly and respect other people (not necessarily do I mean to endlessly tolerate, but respect and demonstrate civility) then an individual has given ultimate meaning to (their) life.

There is but one answer: The "meaning" of life is to live. Nothing more, nothing less. And, whether you live for 1 second or billions, as a breathing being, there is only one thing that you will be doing, and that is experiencing life.

To live is to experience. Simple. Not some convoluted meanings such as you'd get from people who are afraid of death, and thus life -- people who profess in a belief of some sort of entity outside of themselves.

Mean of life is to experience life. Now that you know, live.

I know this answer may look lengthy, but hopefully, i came in great help for you to gain an understanding to life. The meaning of life in my opinion is to show whoever or whatever you believe in that you are loyal. to show loyalty, you have to have confidence in whatever it is you believe in. If you don't believe in something completely, you probably would never achieve your true goal. Just make your mind understand what it is that you want and your mind will do wonders. Almost everything is in your hands like karma. The main thing is that you have to have confidence in whatever you do, but you have to have gain confidence to only do the right thing. I personally believe that a person is the most powerful, whether if you believe in Jesus or any Hindu god like Rama, or the Buddha. All these known gods were in form of humans and shaped the whole world to what and how it is today. As i have said before, everything is in your hands, but use everything you have in a wise way.

Each one gives his/her own life a meaning. The things start to going wrong when some people think the meaning they chose must be the meaning everyone have to choose. Islam is a good sample of that.

To realize that people are the most important. All else is futile. When we give up on getting stuff and making more money, we realize that people we love are the most important thing. The meaning of life means being kind and loving to those we meet once or a thousand times. Governments and businesses could learn from this premise.
