If Al Gore were President:
1. He may have thwarted the 9/11 attacks because he would have maintained the intelligence apparatus that Clinton created that was tracking Al Qaeda’s machinations against this country, instead of marginalizing it the first 9 months he would have been office.
2. If 9/11 did occur anyway, and Al Gore decided to enact a War on Terror as a result, he would have focused on the true problem countries like Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan using surgical strike and counter intelligence measures instead of conventional warfare. He would also not use Iraq as a scapegoat for war profiteering, and he certainly wouldn’t ally himself with countries like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia that are just straddling the fence.
3. He would have garnered more global support for the War on Terror instead of alienating the world by attacking a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11.
4. Our reputation in the world would be stellar because of his superior diplomacy, and most global conflicts would be resolved amicably.
5. He would have done more to ensure that business couldn’t prostitute American jobs overseas, thus encouraging investment in domestic infrastructure, which in turn would have stimulated the economy so it never would have declined the way it did in 2001.
6. Through legislation he would have engendered business to expedite the process of finding cleaner alternatives to fossil fuels, thus setting up conditions that would quicken our separation from the Middle East in terms of reliance on their crude oil.
7. He would ensure more equitable medical treatment is divvied out to those who do not have the means to afford premium health care
8. He would crack down on the medical fraud that is occurring in this country, which is preventing competition from lowering costs and preventing real cures to come to the market through alternative means.
9. He would foster better education through investment in a merit system that would credit teachers for good performance, instead of relying solely on standardized tests, which prove nothing except that our education system is narrowing its scope to the extent that we are producing kids who are not well rounded.
10. He would give our comedians a hard time because he would hardly ever commit a verbal blunder, or appear stupid. My God, Saturday Night Live might actually get canceled.

I think 9/11 would still had happened.
I don't think he would have responded the same way that President Bush did.
Al Gore would have continued with the UN.
Whether or not there would have been further terrorist attacks is a mystery.

He is. Or at least was between 2000 and 2004. He won the popular vote and the electoral college, except that our supreme court was already conservative dominated *before* Bush appointed 2 more fascists.
But to be on topic, maybe we would have started to address the huge upcoming economic catastrophe that is our whole entire infrastructure's dependence on petroleum. Transportation, shipping, plastics, everything that we have developed to support such a specialized society where no one could survive without said infrastructure. Oh, and that whole polar ice caps melting business might have more than a couple bucks thrown at it by the government.
Also, as people said above, maybe we wouldn't have thrown the goodwill of the world in the toilet by violating UN policy in order to invade a country for violating UN policy, Makes sense, right? Only to the circular logic employing fascists that run our country and their fear mongering sycophant followers. http://www.workingforchange.com/comic.cfm?itemid=21376
"Freedom isn't free". Damn right. We need to protect it from our fellow citizens who would abandon it for nothing more than the pretense of security. Shame on us.

If Al Gore was President, perhaps Saddam would still be in power, but the rest of the world would not hate the United States for being so arrogant!!

We wouldn't be in Iraq. Over 3000 Americans who have died for nothing would still be alive.
The victims of Hurricane Katrina would have at least the trailers to live in that are sitting there empty.
The environment would be in a lot better shape.
The country would be in a lot better shape.
Hell, the WORLD would be in a lot better shape!!!

The economy would be down. We would be riding bike to work, those of us that have the few nongovernmental jobs left. And by the time the other countries finished the USA would only be Tennessee and the rest speaking Arabic or Spanish.

We would be SCREWED! America would become a little country like Canada. An idiot that thinks global warming is a real issue doesn't deserve to be president. Global warming doesn't exist! We are going through NORMAL weather changes that happen every ten thousand years or so.
