Nope, it's a myth, the only time it would spread a virus, is if the song or file you're uploading is already contaminated.

If you mount your iPod as an external disk, a virus can be transferred to the hard disk.

i don't know anything about that...but open windows can transfer some virus' to you...
like my mom always say..don't go to bed with a wet head.
