First, 50% of $1211 = $605.50
Mike's share = $605.50 - $238
Daves's share = $605.50 - $78
I will let you do the subtraction.

Mike and Dave own a company 50% each.
Total sales were $1,211.00.
{Mike's 50% of total sales = $605.50; ditto for Dave}
Mikes expense was $238.00.
{Mike's net = $605.50-$238.00= $367.50}
Dave's expense was $78.00.
{Dave's net = $605.50-$78.00= $527.50}
How much does mike and dave get each?
Also is there an easy way to figure this out?
{Just make each statement seperate from the others, and work out the math. What could be easier?}
thanks

The first thing to do is to add the total expenses
$78 + $238 = $316
To get total profits, substract total expenses from total sales
$1211 - $316 = $1197
The multiply total profits by a 50% to get how much Dave and Mike will get.
1197 x (50/100) = $598.50
$598.50 is the amount Dave and Mike each collect as their share of the profits.

Mike and Dave each get 50% of the total sales since they own the same company at 50% each person.
Total sales = $1211.
They both get 50% of the total sales.
So, 0.50 x $1211 = $605.5 for each person.
Mike spend $238 from $605.5 to remain with $367.5.
Dave used up $78 from the $605.5 to be left with $527.5.
To solve word problems, take it apart one sentence at a time.

In calculating the net sales,we need to subtract the expenses made by both-M & D- since these expenses were made for the company(I assume).
Hence Net sales: $1211-$238-$78=$895
Now since M & D are 50% share-holders, $ 895 will be equally divided and that is $ 447.50.

Total expenses = 238 + 78 = $316. Total sales - total expenses = 1211 - 316 = $895. They each get half of that, so Mike and Dave each get $447.50.

Take the total amount divide by 2. Get your # and then take out expensesfor mike and then outof daves expenses. Or take out total expenses first. Than divide by 2 what's left. Depending on if expenses should be taken out first. Like most businesses do.

Subtract the total epenses from the total sales:
1211.00 - (238.00 + 78.00) = 895.00
Multiply that number by the percentage owned:
895.00 x .50 = 447.50
Add back each persons expenses:
Mike 447.50 + 238.00 = 685.50
Dave 447.50 + 78.00 = 525.50

Mike gets 367.50 and Dave gets 527.50. You get this answer by dividing 1211.00 into 2 and then subtracting their expenses from their half of the profit..

If they own the business 50/50 it doesn't matter whose expenses they were. They were business expenses. So the amount each gets is 1211-238-78=895/2=447.50, so each gets $447.50.

mike and dave both get 605.50 each minus there expenses and that equals there profit. 605.50 - 238 = 367.50 or you could total there expenses for 316 and subtract that from 1211.00 and then there profits would be 447.50 each
