I posted a question a few days ago about the phrase "Straight acting". In the question I used the word f@g....apparently that was enough to get me warned and get my question removed.

With all the other garbage on here how does that make sense????

I had a question removed, I asked "Who else is bored? Let's take a break from the bigots" and it got removed. But, upon returning to yahoo answers, the same questions about killing gays, and beating them up, and gays are going to hell were still here.
Go figure.
This site is going down the drain. I'm about to kick rocks and move on.

Hawk, I typed out a word once that I thought was not offensive at all, just part of medical/biological shop talk. It was immediately turned into one of these: ***. I think there is a program Yahoo uses that picks up on what some have described as offensive and it automatically deletes such language.

I too see so much garbage questions on here (some very offensive). I think what Yahoo does is get rid of the one-worders first, automatically. And then, workers actually go in there and read possibly offensive questions, gather MEANING, and then they delete questions that are way out there.

My suggestion is if this happens to you, rewrite the question again without using the term or terms deemed offensive by others. It's a pain, but sometimes we have to do things to get our point across.

I hope this helps you.

Many have already answered this fairly well, but I'll put in my two cents and see if it counts.

The word you used is concidered a "slur" by Yahoo and many of us in the LGBT community/catagory, dependent upon its use.

No, I'm not saying I agree that your question should have been removed, in fact I cannot recall actually seeing it.
It doesn't make much sence concidering how much actual garbage is allowed to remain on this site/in this catagory from all the trolls.

I don't believe Yahoo is at all "like the liberals" (which I am and am VERY proud to be one) namely since it was the ultra-neo-cons who created PC (policital correctness) in the first place!
It all started during Pappa Bush's reign and has progressively gotten worse and less understandable, ever since.

Knowing a little of the roots of the word might help you understand why someone may have reported it as offensive.
A "f@g" or "f@ggot" refers to a short burning stick or bundle of sticks for burning. (Hence the British use of this word for cigarettes.)

As I understand it, there have been some times and places in history when gay men were actually burnt alive on a pile of sticks for engaging in gay activity (not unlike women in the Saalem witch trials).

Thus, referring to gay men as 'f@gs', is not unlike referring to the surviving relatives of a war-torn nation, whose families were wiped out by gunfire, as 'uzzis' or by the name of some other weapon used to kill their people. It's the height of insnsitivity.

Yes, some gay men have reclaimed the word, and will use it to refer to themselves and each other. That's called 'insider language' - language which may or may not be offensive from someone who shares the trait in question, but definitely offensive from someone not sharing that trait. (i.e. how some AfricanAmericans will refer to self or each other as ni---rs, but in NO way is it ok for people of other cultural backgrounds to do so).

I don't know if this helps, but I thought it might be worth sharing.

I don't know how some of our benign questions can get yanked so quickly, yet how it took days to remove the questions that outed that kid at that school or the OLGA/HELGA questions. It doesn't make any sense.

Fag is an offensive word. Simple as that. Did you really think you could use it this section and not offend someone. Why did you choose that word over something like gay or homosexual? I didn't see the question so I don't know what your intention was, but there are some sensitive souls out there, and a little sensitivity on your part wouldn't go astray. Unless you were deliberately trying to offend. In which case you can go **** yourself.
