My theory is everytime my cats are in my car they know they're going to the vet and they hate the vet. I've had several instances where the cat was raaawlll the whole way there and silent the whole way back. But I'm sure the movement and the other cars passing by is really scary for them too.

Cats don't like loss of control of where they are, in a car, they are in motion thats not their own making.and they go in unfamiliar surroundings that they didn't choose to go to

Cats have very sensitive sense of motion and distance, it helps them always land on their feet when they fall. This sensitivity gives them more of a feeling of motion sickness, disorientation, which they try to rectify but can't, so they panic

Cats are territorial, they don't feel right when they're really out of their own space

My cat actually enjoys it I think. She's in the car any chance she can get hah.

Go figures.

Though I would imagine most animals don't like the small, confined space, and the constant moving. Both disorient and throw them off balence.

Man....Yes I think it's because they like being wild and free. I really don't know why but they will kill you trying to get out of the car.
