I had a very large episiotomy four weeks ago when I gave birth to my third baby (8lbs 5oz). It required numerous stitches. It has healed, but there is a flap of skin just on the inside that sticks out about a quarter of an inch and is about the size of a raisin. I am concerned that this will cause issues during intercourse. Has anyone had this problem. If so, were you able to resume normally, or did you have to have the skin removed? Sorry to be so graphic, but I am really freaked out!

Honestly (sorry all ) that happened to me with my last baby. It went away after a month and a half or so. you should be ghaving a follow up apointment with your ob and she/he will let you know if it doesnt go away what can be done. nothing to worry about though hun, and no it doesnt affect sex at all.

I know this is totally different than an episiotomy... but when my dog got spayed, where she was stitched at, had a quater inch flap of skin hanging out. I was worried that they had stitched back up wrong. The skin at first started getting kind of black looking as it was healing. It was still like that when we had the stitches taken out... but today, you cant even see it. I think it was just swelling. It completely went down. I was so worried that she would have to have that flap of skin (you could see the inside layer of her skin and some meat hanging out) surgically cut off. But, to my surprise, it healed 100%. I know... its not the same... but I would just wait because it probably is swelling.

I also had a large episiotomy (almost 14 years ago now...) Intercourse was uncomfortable at first, because it took a long time to heal inside, plus I got in an infection after two weeks...it just took a long time to heal. Don't rush anything...let it heal properly and you will be fine. Good luck! and Congratulations on the baby!

Acually I had the same thing happen. The flap eventually went away after about 5 years. Never had a problem with intercourse and my flap was bigger than a raisin. About as wide as a dime and about an inch long!

I had a bit of that too. When we resumed intercourse, it did hurt the first time, then things went back to normal. My advice is to take it very slowly and carefully when you start up again.

Take care and enjoy the baby!

This could potentially be a hematoma and you should have your doctor take a look at it just to be sure. They usually go away over time and aren't uncommon but can present problems if they do not heal. Good luck!

i wouldn't wait for the next check-up, i would go ahead and call the doctor. it is probably just swelling or something that can be removed rather than something the could be a problem, but if you are freaked out, it will help your peace of mind to find out.

I would call my gyno, It could be from sweeling that area is very sensitive and could take a long to heal. I had several stitches with mine. It eventually worked out ok. If I were youI would call for peace of mind.

Sounds like a skin tag. It's probably there to stay. It probably won't interferewith you or your partner sexually but I suspect a surgeon could remove it if it bothers you (just like someone would remove a mole or something).

Yes, it happens. My boys were close to ten pounds.

That flap will probably be less obvious as time goes on.
And it can add to the pleaseure of intimacy.

One way or another ask your doc about it next time you see him.
