I miss that "nervous feeling" or rather adrenaline rush before games in h.s. and college. The only thing that worked for me was the kick-off. Once that first play occurred, I was soo into the zone that nothing fazed me.
Some former teammates would inflict pain on themselves to get their minds off of the game. ex. punching/slapping the face, lockers, walls; I don't suggest doing this!
Breathing techniques can be very helpful. Take long, deep breathes and exhale slowly. This helps to slow down your heart rate.
Hope this helps,
Good luck with your season

When you're waking up play songs that you like that will get you ready (also get enough sleep so you are mentally all together for your first game). When you are laying in bed the night before or when ever you have time to kill think about it: What can you do to win? What should you remeber NOT to do? Imagine situations (even if you want to aviod them) what can you do about it? You will be mentally prepared. When you arrive at the game take deep breaths, bend down put your hands on your knees let your muscles relax. Also stretching a little before the game will get you loose and relaxed&you'll have a safe game! I am sure you are physically prepared but you could always have a few friend over to play a little game or something like the day before! Everyone uses something different to get excited.. such as.. Yelling-it produces aggresivness leading to strength. Maybe a quote. Maybe a song. Maybe a famous football player they want to be like. Goodluckkkk You'll do great

It's important to put the game into perspective. Life is long and you have years of accompishments ahead of you. Give it your best but don't make the game more than it is, it is only a game. The harder you work in preparation for the game helps build confidence. Confidence that you did everything possible to prepare for gametime will outweigh the nervous feelings before the game.

I don't play football but I play basketball and I would just be silly and goof around with your teammates before the game. That's what we did my seventh grade, my first year playing on a school team, and we won a lot of games.

prepare for the game and know that you will play good when it comes(know your stuff), on the game day eat normal just a tiny bit less(nothing to terribly heavy), take a dump so you dont want to feel heavy, take a warm shower and relax... (make sure and time all your stuff so that you dont have to much down time, if you are busy u wont think about getting nervous... have music that gets you excited and wanting to play hard.
im from texas and played in 2 state games trust me staying occupied keeps you from getting too nervous. be a lil cocky so u know you will do good.
