I need to answer this question: a single windmill can produce some energy, explain the use of wind farms and where wind energy can be used to power a whole city?

A 'windmill' is an outdated term. A modern wind turbine can be located anywhere a permit can be obtained, subject to local ordinances and zoning laws. Many people don't like the sight of them according to the NIMBY effect. Of course turbines are intentionally sited in the windiest possible locations. Wind power increases with the cube of the wind speed, so it is very important to install turbines at the windiest possible locations. The engineer starts with wind maps and follows up with wind surveys to collect information on the microclimate. A year of data collection may be required to find the best sites.
Multiple turbines together are called a windfarm. A moderately large city uses about 1 Gigawatt of power. A modern turbine produces 2-3 Megawatts in peak conditions, so several hundred turbines would be required. The turbines have to be spaced apart, so a wind farm to power an entire city would require at least 2 square miles of land, probably more. However, turbines can be located on farm land without interfering with agriculture.

Well if there are windfarms in California, there must be some way to feed the energy to a power plant, but I"m not sure. Research it on Google. The web is a giant encyclopedia, so make Use of it!

I used to live in California and there were lots of windmill generators. The windmills spin the turbines which creates electricity.

, a wind farm is just another way to generate electricity. we power thousands of homes in colorado that way. the electricity just goes into the power grid. need more imfo, google ,wind farms in colorado
