Typing papers for college students. Even offer editing with their approval for extra. Charge them for the paper, ink, and labor.

Sell some old junk on eBay.

Babysit your neighbors' kids, or ex-coworkers'.

Put an ad in the paper to clean houses. You could even find a part-time job doing that while you look for another job. Or even washing dishes 3rd shift. Sleep second and look for a job on first.

To prepare for that I'd set aside like 10% or more. However much you can afford. Then you always have some extra emergency money.

Also just accumulate skills in your current job. Know something else. Like I'm taking a double major. one in Accounting and one in Business. Then I'll have skills in both. Just try to have your major skill and then the minor skill. This way you have one your really good at and one your just good at. This will double the jobs out there to choose from when you're looking for a new one.

You could clean houses, sell things on EBay, have a yard sale, search the barter ads, you never know what you may get that is useful. Some people give grocery cards or restaurant gift certificates in exchange for some simple labor. I've cleaned garages out and painted sheds while out of work. You have to eat when your not working. Be creative.
