When I'm using the internet, my comp acts fine, but when I use a program or game, at some point , the comp will completely shutdown. I'll scanned my computer for spyware, malware, and viruses (using Spyware Dr. and Norton) and they comclusively found nothing malicious on my computer. What's going on???

I suggest updating your virus scanner. I had a problem a few weeks ago, and my virus and spyware scanner didn't pick up anything. I haven't updated it for only a couple of months. After updating my McAfee Virus scanner, it found over 15,000 files that were infected.

Which programs?

Which type of games?

It sounds like you are having a Heat problem.

Games that are graphic intensive use up a lot of processing power. If you are using onboard graphics instead of a Graphics card, the CPU becomes very hot. When the CPU gets to a certain temperature, it shuts down to prevent damage.

Same thing can happen if you are using a graphics card that cannot handle the load. What the graphic card can't handle, the CPU jumps in.

This is also true for programs that uses a lot of Processing power, such as CAD, film editing and other intense programs.

There are 3rd party hardware/software that can keep track of your CPU Temperature as well as the temperature inside the case. You could also control the CPU temperature by upgrading the CPU fan to a variable speed fan.

Try this as an experiment. Open the side of your PC and aim a regular 10 or 12 inch household fan directly into the case and across the CPU. Play the game that usually crashes. If it doesn't crash, it was a heating problem.

Since you say it works fine while on the Internet and only shuts down when you use a program or a game, I would first make sure I had the most up to date Video Drivers. Go to the Computer Mfgr's site or the Video Card Mfgr's site for the newest (non-beta) drivers.

Check your computer for dust buildup and clean it if necessay.

Your Computer is overloaded on memory when you play a game on the computer. It shuts-down to prevent the computer from frying.

I do believe a higher watt power supply would help, it is the least glorified and the most critical piece.
