He wasn't appointed. He won the elctoral vote in 2000. It was confirmed that he had 63% of the infamous "hanging chad" ballots and over 90% of the late overseas absentee ballots clearly giving him the electoral votes necessary.
He won both the popular vote and the electoral college votes in 2004.
FYI: his average approval rating is 57% from January 2000 to August 2006. His approval rating has hovered between 42 and 44 since September 22.

Unfortunately the greatness of man, his intellectual acuity, his eloquence, his bravery, his experience and his integrity have nothing to do with whether a person will get a elected or not. Our electoral process, especially with respect to the Presidency, is more akin to a popularity contest than a deliberate and mature assessment by the American citizenry of who is most qualified for the job. That is why the person who gets the job isn’t the individual who is necessarily best suited for the endeavor as much as who has the best propaganda machines and the largest sum of money at his disposal. Hence you will always see a disconnect between the way the American people perceive the quality of work a President is doing and his viability for being a candidate for the highest office in the land.

one.. not for or against bush. at this point I don't really care.. two.. why are you stupid enough to believe approval ratings? they are biased anyways. If they want to find out what his ratings are they need to do a national poll by ONE company instead of cnn here. fox there. etc. approval ratings are a bunch of crap. Don't listen to them. Their answers are only based on the people they ask and the people that respond. Which is what like 200 people at any given time. You can't guess a rating based on the answers from 200 people.

Because we're all spoiled rotten ! I just can't get over the Bush bashers who accuse him of starting wars for oil, then they trot out to their SUV - 12 miles per gallon, and drive to the mail box. Hey, I'm not even a Bush fan, but why is it we blame ONE PERSON for everything ranging from the high price of gas to the problems with health insurance and social security. Let's spread some of that "blame" to the 535 members of the house and senate and ourselves for being so greedy we consume 25% of the worlds resources, then maybe his approval rating will go up a notch.

Because hes not such a great President as people claim. The ones that say the American public in general is in favor of Iraq and economy Obviously live in a ivory tower and only come to speak on the news. Because that is certainly not the way most of the public feels.

How would you lik eto be faced with the problems of America? Maybe the administration hasn't taken all the right steps, but its a start...Foreign Terrorism is new to America it takes time to fix it (if you don't get the message in that it means go after the power structure, dismantle it and choke off its money supply)

Many people even some repuglicans have gotten wise to George Bush diversionary tactic's, his lies about the economy, his lies about the war, his lies about Katrina and are fleeing form his oppressive style of leadership. I think the pendulum is finally swing back to the left and he will pay dearly for his war crimes in the near future.
